Just hand R.C. Executive of the Year right now!!!!
I posted that after the Aldridge signing. He deserves a bigger award! What's next, Lebron decides to join the Spurs too?

The only reason I didn't like West in that NO series was because he couldn't ing miss! Figured it was going in every time he shot the ball. Awesome to have him on the team. Bring a lot of toughness, which we were so lacking last year.

FINALLY! The last three days have been the biggest waste of time for me...now I can go back to working on my congressional campaign and the important issue of bringing FEDERAL income taxes to Texas. Who can get me a few hours of time in front of PATFO to present my plan? I can show them why the Spurs could field an All Star team every year. Dead serious. Don't believe me? Great signing this guy is rugged and is an enforcer. The spurs haven't had an enforcer type of player in a while since Jax and Kwill.

I don't know if I would give up 12M for vet min (1.4 M?). He's not like one of those superstars who's earned tons of money.
$87 million or so isn't bad. But forgoing $12 million could be a swing of 10% of his net worth.

That said, he could look at this as an opportunity to (1) play with someone he's admired, (2) win a le, (3) save some mileage on his body and (4) better position himself for post-playing career.

West is also positioning himself to finish with the Spurs. My guess is they'll bring him back if he has a successful campaign this year.

When Indiana Pacers power forward David West opted out of the $12.6 million final season of the five-year contract he signed with the Indiana Pacers in 2011, he vowed that a chance to win an NBA le was more important than money. On Monday, West, 34, proved he is a man of his word, agreeing to play for the Spurs next season for the veteran minimum contract worth about $1.5 million.

“It’s amazing, but it’s true,” said Jeff Austin, West’s agent. “When David opted out of his contract, he told me this could perhaps be his last year, and he was not going to let money be the factor in determining where he plays. He was going to make his decision based on the best opportunity to win and the best fit for him.”

Numerous teams, including the Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers, inquired about West early in the free agency process. West bided his time, waiting to see what other players would do and where the free-agent dominoes would fall. When Spurs captain Tim Duncan announced he was returning for another season and LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland’s All-Star power forward, chose the Spurs over other numerous other teams that tried to recruit him, West knew he wanted to wear silver and black.
