A 7'4 dude not being a great PnR defender? Well I'll be damned! If PnR defense is what stops a center to play in the Spurs system they might as well write Duncan off, who's been terrible at it for years.
12 years to be exact.
But even an 18 year old today would be able to tell that.

This is out 5th big... and he won't be worse than Ayres... that's an upgrade no matter how you look at it...
If he can catch a basketball he'll be an improvement there. At least Ayres was honest about it.
Worst case he`s got 6 PF
What do you expect from a 7-3ft center?
Wander if his lack of 3 point range or his ability to bring up the ball against press defenses will be a reason for concern as well.
ofc it will for some here
he will be on the spurs 3rd team... but in compe ive games, you dont exactly see hockey shifts with the entire 2nd team on the floor, then entire 3rd team, etc. he will be up against some starters at all points
He's a 5th big...
His mix will likely be with 6-13th rotation players with very minimal time against starters. Not to mention a few DNP.
Hardly an issue...
its amazing that you analyzed nba offenses at 11 and still remember game/playcall patterns
Yes, because I can't go back and relive 2003-2007 basketball

its amazing that you go back and watch footage of zydrunas ilgauskas defense from the early 2000's
He can't be that much slower than Brook Lopez on defense.
6 *hard* fouls.
290lbs worth of bone crushing screens
7'5" of sharp flying elbows!
Im expecting very little from the giant, tbh. He strikes me as a player whos going to have some real trouble with the pace and athleticism of the NBA. Hoping he proves me wrong.
I guess Z didn't play the 07 finals
arbiter of terrorism trying too hard.

Considering his playing time, if his defense really is that much of a hindrance it'll be negated by his playing time. Lopez is slow on the D end and he still plays starter minutes, boban should be okay vs 2-3rd stringers.
He'll absorb some regular season minutes and be thrown in to spot minutes in the playoff when the situation warrants. If he appears in half the regular season games and a fourth of the playoff games I'd be surprised. He'll average less than 10 MPG in those games (less than 5 in the post season). All this barring injuries to the guys in front of him of course.
Too much talent in front of him.
^^^ I like him though. He looks like a cool dude.
I was referring to myself in that previous post of course.

Boban is injured: http://www.nba.com/spurs/boban-marjanovic-injury-update
Brook Lopez, while painfully slow, is a good shotblocker. Boban has never been a prolific swatter.
