At no time did anyone think it was a bomb, period.
It seems so. But that's not the same thing as everyone knowing it wasn't. For a person who loves semantic arguments, you're sure trying to skim over that one.

If they did, then they all were completely derelict in their respective duties by keeping all the kids in that school that had a bomb in it.
Yes, and I don't think anyone in here thinks the school acted like it was a bomb.

You can't have it both ways.
Pretending you have a bomb is illegal even if it's obvious you don't. No one thought it was a bomb the kid had. They did think he was leaving it ambiguous to arouse su ion. I don't know if he was. But it's very possible, especially given that his father has done stupid things to get attention. You have to understand that the dude's a teenager, and goofy, inconsiderate things are not past teens at all. And people do evocative things all the time to take political stances. , we had a Latino walkout at my high school when I was a junior. Some of my friends took a vow of silence when Bush won the 2004 election (freshman year). I can go on.

None of that makes the kid guilty of doing anything but making a clock and liking it so much he showed it to everyone he met. But the kid could have been a race-baiting asshole who was vocal enough that he and his father were already known to the police to the point that they'd assume he'd be at the center of any controversy at that school. We don't know, and that's what an investigation is for.

From what I have read from the police, they wanted him to say that he deliberately made it look like a bomb to freak people out and used several officers to interrogate him without his parents to get that out of him.

    Ridiculous.
Yep, that's ridiculous and illegal, and cops deserve to be heavily reprimanded for that. It's absolutely not okay to violate anyone's cons utional rights, and to try to get a confession out of a minor without his parents of a lawyer there should be punishable by termination, I believe. I don't think I've said anything to contradict that stance. Of course, we'll see if an investigation turns up a different story, however.

PUMA is a PAC, David. Why can't a PAC have an official message board?

Face it, David: Hillary is a birther and the Democrats are the party of birthers. When you go to the polls on election day, you'll be voting for a birther. By your logic, that makes you a birther.

Wait, the teacher doesn't want to be an asshole but calls the cops on the kid?
Teacher doesn't want to take it away. Instead they tell you to put it away (allowing you to keep it even knowing it might be alcohol because they trust you). You don't, so they threaten you with confiscation by a bigger authority figure.

If anyone thinks it's liquor, check. It's extremely easy to tell if a brown liquid is tea or liquor.
I said that in the first post. Of course, if it's a "clock" and not "tea", you don't just check. But obviously, this isn't a complete one-to-one here.

If a teacher is more worried about the kid's thinking he's an asshole than the kid's actual welfare, he's already an asshole
It's been a while since you were in school, it seems. If the kid drinking a bit of alcohol but being a good enough student to where the teacher is obviously giving him the benefit of the doubt, then I don't think anyone should be worrying about the student's welfare. It's not a big deal.

Yes, and I don't think anyone in here thinks the school acted like it was a bomb.
So there is no reason for you to pretend anyone did.

So if the kid just intended it to be a clock, what more did he have to tell them other than it was a clock?

None of that makes the kid guilty of doing anything but making a clock and liking it so much he showed it to everyone he met. But the kid could have been a race-baiting asshole who was vocal enough that he and his father were already known to the police to the point that they'd assume he'd be at the center of any controversy at that school. We don't know, and that's what an investigation is for.
So they knew it wasn't a bomb and there was no evidence he was a race baiting asshole. I take issue with your saying the kid was known as a controversial figure by the police. I have seen nothing in the press about the kid's having a history with the police at all.

And if his father was known for this kind of thing, why did every school and police official play directly into what they perceived as his agenda? Surely before turning it over to the city cops, someone at the school could have said "Wait. Call his parents." It's just so simple. This idiocy could have been stopped at every level but everyone involved decided to go full re and make the situation as bad as possible short of tasing the kid.

How would an "investigation" change the fact he was interrogated by multiple policemen without his parents present?

If you don't think a kid's drinking alcohol in the cafeteria isn't a sign that something could be very wrong with that kid's welfare, I don't know what to tell you other than you've completely failed as a teacher.

OK, who thought it was a bomb?
No one. And no one but the kid knew it wasn't. Do you really want to keep refusing to acknowledge the difference here? It's boring.

So there is no reason for you to pretend anyone did.
I never did. Seriously, stop this line of reasoning it's wrong, and it's really eliminates a desire to go back and forth with you.

So if the kid just intended it to be a clock, what more did he have to tell them other than it was a clock?
Why he won't put it away, who can verify why it's there. In a legal sense, he never had to say anything. But from a practical sense, he should have answered all of their questions as completely as possible.

So they knew it wasn't a bomb and there was no evidence he was a race baiting asshole. I take issue with your saying the kid was known as a controversial figure by the police. I have seen nothing in the press about the kid's having a history with the police at all.
I never said he was controversial and I never said he was race-baiting. So take your issues somewhere else. I said those things were possible, and that an investigation is needed to get a better sense of what happened. CN has posted quite a few articles attack the common view of this case. Most of them are stupid and baseless. Some of them have information that's not really being discussed in the mainstream media. There could be a completely different story here. Me saying that is not me saying that such a story exists. Rather, it's me saying that people shouldn't jump to conclusions based on partial information. And that's totally what you're doing even if you won't admit it. More importantly, that's what people like Obama and the folks at MIT did. And that's silly.

And you won't find me saying there wasn't idiocy at every level. That includes the kid, though. One side acting foolishly doesn't prevent the other side from doing the same.

How would an "investigation" change the fact he was interrogated by multiple policemen without his parents present?
Again, this is getting boring. I've said so many times that the police were wrong. Are you incapable of responding without twisting what I said even though it's on the screen right in front of you where you're typing? If you want to troll without actually having a discussion, let me know so I can stop responding and just watch football.

    That teacher shouldn't be teaching.

    And he's a colossal asshole.

If you don't think a kid's drinking alcohol in the cafeteria isn't a sign that something could be very wrong with that kid's welfare, I don't know what to tell you other than you've completely failed as a teacher.
Eh, again, I think you're out of touch. I've known plenty of people who drank or did worse in school and have gone on to live productive lives. Any teacher worth their salt knows when to let kids slide. Letting a kid openly drink in school is not that time, but defusing the situation while not confiscating the substance may be if the kid is good enough at school and seems healthy.

Of course anyone can check if it's a clock or tea. You're making this way more complicated than it is.
A person CAN check to see if it's a bomb or a clock. But I don't think many would want to look at it that closely if there's doubt.

No one. And no one but the kid knew it wasn't. Do you really want to keep refusing to acknowledge the difference here? It's boring.
Actually, they all knew it wasn't. They proved that with their actions.

I never did. Seriously, stop this line of reasoning it's wrong, and it's really eliminates a desire to go back and forth with you.
You're saying that there was some kind of uncertainty whether it was a bomb the entire time. There simply wasn't. Everyone involved knew it wasn't a bomb.

Why he won't put it away, who can verify why it's there. In a legal sense, he never had to say anything. But from a practical sense, he should have answered all of their questions as completely as possible.
What else was there to say. He said what it was and why he brought it to school. It wasn't the answer they wanted to get out of him so they escalated.

I never said he was controversial and I never said he was race-baiting. So take your issues somewhere else.
You made the insinuation, so tatk that somewhere else.

I said those things were possible, and that an investigation is needed to get a better sense of what happened. CN has posted quite a few articles attack the common view of this case. Most of them are stupid and baseless. Some of them have information that's not really being discussed in the mainstream media. There could be a completely different story here. And that's totally what you're doing even if you won't admit it. More importantly, that's what people like Obama and the folks at MIT did. And that's silly.
What revelations are you saying are possible here.

I can't think of any that will change my mind. The school and the police overreacted and continue to act stupidly about thie. Your best argument is that the Muslim kid may have been uppity.

And you won't find me saying there wasn't idiocy at every level. That includes the kid, though. One side acting foolishly doesn't prevent the other side from doing the same.
If that kid had the power to arrest and detain the school and law enforcement officials, I would agree.

Again, this is getting boring. I've said so many times that the police were wrong. Are you incapable of responding without twisting what I said even though it's on the screen right in front of you where you're typing? If you want to troll without actually having a discussion, let me know so I can stop responding and just watch football.
You made it clear that you think this could all be justified if the Muslim kid was more uppity than has already been reported.

    That's stupid.

Kids drink in school all the time now. It's best to be cool about it because nothing bad could ever happen.

A person CAN check to see if it's a bomb or a clock. But I don't think many would want to look at it that closely if there's doubt.
If there is a doubt, that's when you call the police. That is not what happened in this case. Everyone involved knew it was a clock and not a bomb on sight.
