Stop talking basketball. You are embarrassing.
Stop talking basketball. You are embarrassing.
I know, but it has to be done.
Simmons isn't even looking to shoot. Not sure if he's trying to fit in and not seem selfish by looking for his own shot/offense or what, but all I know is that he isn't looking too good right now. It seems like if he can't drive to the rim, he'd rather pass the ball than even think about taking a shot for himself. I'm very disappointed in his play so far. I expected someone more aggressive and confident out there with his shooting and offensive game. It looks like I could destroy him in a shooting contest (the rest of my game sucks though). It doesn't seem like he has any confidence whatsoever in his jumper to even look at taking one during these games so far. As a shooter, you have to have confidence in your shot at all times. You can't be scared to shoot. Even if you're a great shooter, if you're scared to shoot the ball there's a lot less of a chance that the ball will go in.
It's really disappointing because he has some other great tools to work with, but if he doesn't even want to shoot the ball, I'm not sure if those other tools will be enough. I only saw him in summer league and based on that, I was worried about his shooting. Looks like his shooting could be even worse than I imagined. What was his shooting like in D-League? Did he need time to get his shot up? Did he only shoot it when he was open?
Give me a break.
Oh so funny...Philo's track Record.
- Kawhi will never be a star player..Goes on to become a top 10 player in the league
- Memphis/thunder will beat the Spurs 2014..Spurs goes on to
- Warriors are a joke of team...team goes on to win LOBT
Seriously you're terrible at basketball takes..Stick to talking about Turkey or some .
Who was the ing idiot that said reggie can score?
I almost hate this guy more than Ayres...hes so ing bad
So it seems that it's user ditty that doesn't know what the they're talking about
never said any of those things but k.
keep telling us about kawhi's fanduel points or about how TD is a stat padder
He wasn't shooting a whole lot TBH, he's a reluctant shooter. He'd get a lot of looks like in SL, which boost your stats and are deceptive: Dunks in transition, an alley oop from Kyle, a slash to the rim off the dribble, but there is no rim protection in dleague, and lanes open up more frequently with bad defense. He would take a 3 if he was open, but he is not a guy you run off a screen to get a shot off, he'd need to be spotted up and with no one closing out to take a 3. I don't remember form or anything like that, just that he was reluctant to shoot. He's got an average shot, not quick trigger, but also not terribly slow like some others that are noticeable. I am not sure what has happened to his shot, but clearly NBA players have more size and close out to shooters, and he's got in his mind what he likes to do which is drive. A shooter would get the ball and want to shoot it, he's not that.
Thanks for posting!![]()
I recall one season, I think it was with the Warriors and he was hitting shots with regularity in the few games I saw him play with them. He has scored at the NBA level before.
Rasul Butler has the 15th spot on lockdown. He looks like he's New Orleans again.
Once Marjanovic gets used to the speed by Janury, he'll be fine. He moves WAY better than the scouting report in August said.
David West is going to be so freaking fun to watch.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day aye
I've built a passionate hate for him without even meaning it, i see him on the court and my blood boils, he brings nothing
Was at the game, much to forget but boban is going to bea beast defensively. He's fast enough, just not quick. But every hawk gave him space unless they were forced into him. No one wanted to bang him. If he can work on his short "jumper" or maybe a hook, he'll be a solid starter. No star, but solid.
It's late and I'm groggy. Wanted to get this written before I crash. Just comment on any mistakes I made and I'll fix them later. This is off a single watch, without reading anyone else's comments.
Game observations:
Rotation guys from last year, we know who you are and what we're getting. You did fine. Your transition defense was awful. I'm sure Pop will let you know about that. Don't get hurt before the season starts.
Sometimes I wonder why everyone makes such a big deal about Kawhi Leonard, and then there are other times that he does something that makes me think of Michael Jordan. He's really working on that turnaround, and his footwork on it is really fun to watch. He looks like he's added some cleverness in traffic that he didn't have last year. He can put it up softly even when charging at the glass.
Tony Parker looks a little quicker than he did playing for France. His sluggish start is probably alarming to a number of fans, particulary those who didn't see him over the summer. His first jump shot barely drew glass, and not many of his other jumpers looked any better. His passing was pretty good, and he looked like he got more aggressive going toward the basket as he went further into the game. He showed a bit of explosiveness, if only on offense. At this point, he showed that he's physically capable of being game-changing TP from time to time, which many of us were questioning if he could do at all. I think we've all learned that it's not something the Spurs should rely on going forward, but it would be nice to discover it still exists.
Kyle Anderson looks fine as long as he's with good teammates. I really liked when he was bringing the ball up when he was on the floor with Mills. I seem to recall that he played some 2 and some 4 as well. When it was him and the scrub show in the second half the whole team became a train wreck, and I don't think he's any more to blame for that than everyone else on the floor with him. I have enough faith in his basketball IQ that he's figuring out how to contribute in the rotation with the players who matter.
If I were to guess, and I'm usually wrong about stuff like this, Rasual Butler looks like the guy who's going to make the roster. He's in the right places on both ends, he contributes even if he's not scoring, and he manages not to be a liability when he's on the floor, which is all the Spurs ask of a deep bench player.
Deshaun Thomas looks like Deshaun Thomas, but three years older. Nothing else has changed. I originally wrote a lot, but that's all you need to know. He added nothing to his game since being drafted. Don't forget your passport, D.
Ray McCallum. Yo, Ray. The shot clock resets to 14 after a kicked ball. How the ever-living do you not know that? The Spurs finally got a representative for Shaqtin' a fool. Also, not a good idea to try to dunk on a guy who's a foot taller than you are.
At this point, I like Youssou Ndoye better than I like Boban Marjanovic, but I've seen more of Ndoye because he was in summer league. I don't really think there's any way Ndoye gets that last roster spot
Unless I missed it, Jonathon Simmons didn't play at all in the first half, and only got some run with the scrubs in the fourth after the team and the game fell apart. I'm not worried about anything he did.
Jimmer Fredette. Holy . He takes risks with the ball when he handles it, doesn't pay attention to where he is, and uses the same spin move as often as he can, turning a relatively easy shot attempt into a circus shot. He actually made one at the end of the game, which is probably proof of nothing more than he practices like that in an empty gym. I don't see how Pop can put up with that for an entire season. He also leads the league in passing the ball to teammates who are out of bounds.
Any of you guys miss Jeff Ayres yet? After watching Bonner, Boban and Ndoye you probably should.
There's no such thing as missing Jeff Ayres
However, this is pre-season, so he's got to keep forcing the offense so that he learns how he feels when he is outside his comfort zone.
I actually really liked your take as a whole, but I didn't miss Ayres. Dude looked awful in the summer league a couple of years ago. I prefer Boban's size and Ndoye's hustle.
I agree with this. Now is the perfect time for Kawhi to just take over the game and use it as practice for working on the things he worked on this summer in game situations. It's one thing to work on moves in a gym, but you need game experience to be able to string moves together seamlessly, without having to think.
Leonard doesn't have the fluidity in motion as Parker or Ginobili. He's a bit mechanical, so by forcing the plays, he gets to learn how to get creative.
Heck, I would go as far as having half a regular season where Leonard plays out of control, just so he learns.
The scrubs need to do the opposite, learn how to play a controlled game. Simmons for example needs to learn to catch and shoot. He has the talent, but it is too early in his career to be other than a role player. Just be a Bruce Bowen is what I recommend for Simmons.
That's funny!
Thanks for sharing!!! I don't know if it's just me, but I think he has good chemistry with Anderson, they are often involved in a two man game, that I think given Anderson's youth and potential can develop into a future fun combo.
First time I've been able to watch him this preseason and it was only in the closing minutes of 4th. That being said, I had 3 takeaways:
1. Trying too hard and forcing things. The coaches may have sent him in to bring energy since we were behind, so hopefully this at ude might have been purposeful. Working hard but not smart and committing unforced errors.
2. Most athletic guy on the team? Dude can move fast and jump high--but as Sir Charles said, "So can deer, but you don't see many in the NBA"
3. He's obviously taking Pop's comment to heart and is trying to make his mark via passing, but I'd like to see better shooting and offensive moves.
Limited sample. Maybe others have different takes. I'm hoping for faster adjustment to the big show.
