Well, I don't think people were bashing him in particular as they were bashing the cir stances of the situation. Their best player was a PF in Bosh, and they picked another PF. That's what people were booing.

If I were a Hawks fan, I would have booed the Marvin Williams pick at #2, not because I think he's gonna be a bust, but just because I felt they could have used Chris Paul more.

All this was with Bosh out for most of the game with a thumb injury as well, so the Bucks defense was focusing in on Charlie V. Unbelivable game.

    UCONN could've used him today....

BTW... What is Sam Casells career high points in a game? I just want to know if Villanueva has the highest scoring game for someone who looks like an alien.

At the beginning of the Nets / Pistons game today, ESPN showed Rip and "Uncle" Cliff Robinson "consoling" each other during warmups, it was pretty funny.

Risky pick which turned out to be damn good. Even I was saying WTF @ Villanueva getting picked so early.
This reminds me of the Jason Richardson pick a few years ago. He wasn't projected to go as high as number 5 in 2001. He was raw - a high-flier who, along with Zach Randolph, had probably come out of MSU a year early.

It's assumed that if you pick someone a little high it's because the team has a need at that position. With Mookie Blaylock (11.0 ppg, 6.7 apg, 2.36 spg), Bob Sura (11.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.02 spg), Larry Hughes (16.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.92 spg), and Vonteego mings (7.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.02 spg), guard play didn't seem to be the immediate concern for the Warriors. And if they had a weakness, it was how old their point guard was, not their up-and-comer in Hughes.

While entering the draft it looked very skittish at replacing Blaylock (it ended up producing Arenas, Tinsley, and Parker, all taken between picks 27-30), the Warriors had chosen Richardson over the best available pick, and potential number-one overall selection Eddie Griffin. The Warriors had given up the all-around game and maturity of Shane Battier, and solid lottery selections like Joe Johnson, Vladimir Radmonovic, and Steven Hunter.

Looking back, it looks like the best draft for the Warriors in this decade - Jason Richardson (5th overall), Troy Murphy (14th overall), and Gilbert Arenas (30th overall). But on Draft day 2001, it looked like the Warriors had lost their mind taking yet another slightly above-average shooting guard, a shoot-first point guard, and an average big man when they could've had the best player in the draft (Griffin).

    2. Charlie Villanueva - 12.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 69 games.

    3. Dennis Rodman - 7.3 ppg, 13.1 rpg, 1.8 apg in 911 games.

    4. Popeye Jones - 7.0 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 535 games

"Without a doubt it was a statement game," Charlie Villanueva said about his 48-point performance.

"I was actually planning on sending my boxscore to ESPN."

    Go Charlie!

Now that he says "statement," look at it:

    Bogut/Magloire: 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block.
Villanueva: 48 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.

All against Sam Mitc 's former team (as an assistant coach).
