Absolutely stunning by Fisher!Ya Tony missed that last shot but he made 2 other big shots down the stretch. I'm surprised Carmelo didn't try and force a shot up there he was heating up in the 4th. I'm also shocked the Knicks didn't call a time out on that last play especially with how well they executed the previous play out of that time out. Win is a win I guess. Tough game against the ref's and a Knicks team that showed up to play.
Let's take the win, fellas. 22-0 at home is no easy feat.

Spurs win and that's all that matters. Plus after all those blowouts it was nice to have a tough close game in preparation for some of the tougher games we have coming up.

Agreed. The Knicks played their best game of the season while we played arguably our worst at home and still won the game despite some blatant missed calls. Championship teams find ways to win even when everything seems to be going against their way.

Danny playing well enough for Pop to trust him in the clutch makes this an awesome victory. As long as the Spurs win, the most important thing for them is getting their guys in rhythm and building chemistry. Tony, Danny, Kawhi, Boris and LaMarcus are all playing well together. Them being able to close out a clutch victory only means good things.

There's something to it. The Spurs are lacking in sharp end-game mechanics. They have so little need for it the offense hitches and freezes. The point is that people are using like the first game in a long time that the Spurs have been threatened as an example of them not being able to close. The reason why they keep blowing teams out is because they've been closing VERY well this season. A team that has to scrape together a bunch of close victories is the one with closing issues.
btw Danny deserves some credit for playing well on defense. He earned those extra minutes tonight.
I said it early in the thread, teams with young athletic bigs are going to give the Spurs trouble. Porzingas is pretty much THE young athletic big right now. A lot of people seem to have forgotten how much trouble Lopez has given Tim the last couple of seasons. To me, that was one of the first signs that Tim really was aging. There was a time when Tim would have just ripped him a new one. Instead, he went straight at Tim quite a lot, and made Tim put up some really bad shots on the other end. You notice that Tim played less than 21 minutes tonight, and that left the Spurs under-sized against this Knicks team.
There are always going to be teams that match up better against a particular team. If the Spurs meet a team like that in the playoffs, it will probably be a long series. Or a short series, with a lot of close games.

Good points. That being the case, why not get Boban in the game against Lopez. BTW, it was Kawhi on Porzingis that finally quieted him down from 3 in the 4th quarter.
He wasn't special tonight and Danny was having a of a defensive game. If Danny was ting it, I could have seen more of him, but it was either sit Danny/Kawhi/Manu for him and the three had a good game.
Frankly it is not his minutes at all that I thought was the problem. 10 minutes against a team like this is about what I wuold expect. The problem is that when he was there, they didn't look for him to make plays. The one cut he had was a beauty, and he could have 1 or 2 more shots.

2-3 from 3P. 4 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Yeah, he played well. If only he wasn't 1-6 on his 2-point shots. Danny just needs to quit trying to take it to the paint.
Danny had a good game at both ends. Manu had a good game. Kawhi had a very pedestrian game (for Kawhi) on the offensive end. That was due to his expending so much energy on D. But when Kawhi was out, Danny played Melo very well. I think there were minutes for Simmons in that stretch, especially with Patty being subpar - again. I also would like to have seen Pop give Boban a shot against Lopez. Tim couldn't do it tonight, and he only played 21 minutes. Pop clearly wanted this game, and he shortened his rotation to the vets.

When you look at all the factors the Spurs controlled tonight, you'd think they would have won fairly easily.

So what kept the Knicks in this game? It's pretty simple, when you look at the box:
The Knicks shot a ridiculous (for them) percentage from the 3P line. The Knicks are 23rd in the league, and average 33.7% from the arc. Tonight they shot 43%.
Kawhi took 4 FT's to Carmello's 10. (18 FGA for Kawhi, compared to 15 FGA for Melo.) Right calls, or wrong, the whistles were a big factor in the game.
