Damn... I never would have guessed Kobe's retirement would have sent you s into a great depression. Some -sucker upstairs started a thread begging the question in my thread le. And you get all these jackasses coming up with all these half-baked ideas but not one of them mention the obvious. So I'll point out the obvious. Fans, and players love excitement and scoring. Its always been that way in every era... it didn't start with Kobe. The two most popular players today minus Kobe is James and Curry... excitement and scoring. Kobe is a top three scorer in the history of the game. And aside from Jordan there has never been a more exciting player. Not to mention... Kobe is more accomplished than Jim. Kobe owns Jim head to head. Players and fans recognize this. No matter how the game evolves with the advanced stats, people will always be interested in who scored the most points and won the most les. And because of this fact Kobe will be popular for a very long time.
Some of you are extremely foolish enough to think that the geeks and nerds like yourself will change how the game is viewed, but you're dead wrong. Jocks never give a about what nerds think. Even the greatest coaches of all time actually played the game before. Pop, PJ, Riley and others played at a high level. So don't fool yourself into thinking the league is going to ever seek your approval on the game.

Kobe created an image for himself, Duncan didn't.
It's like why is Roy Jones Jr respected, but who remembers Dariusz Michalczewski?
