Timmy's line since coming back from the injury
3.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, 20% shooting in 19 minutes per game.
Rebounds, blocks and assists not too bad on a per minute basis, but 20% shooting is Kobe-esque.
To be fair it has only been 2 games, so it's a pretty damn small sample size. It is unfortunate that Tim seems to have clearly regressed from last year though
I wonder how much is regression/age and how much is opportunity. I have no stats to back me up, but my recollection was Tim has been a slow-starter the last few years. That he is likely to miss his first few shots before figuring out what the defense and his aging body will let him do on any given night. With many of his shots that now go to LMA and Kawhi, his attempts are so down I do wonder if he ever really gets a chance to calibrate his offense during a game.To be fair it has only been 2 games, so it's a pretty damn small sample size. One place that HAS unquestionably regressed is his mid-range shooting. He worked hard to be deadly at the top of the key, but that doesn't seem to be an efficient shot any more. But again, his attempts are down, because LMA, Kwahi and West can all shoot that shot.
Tim's role is less of a scorer this year. Totally because of the system. Nothing to do with him regressing in that department. That's what I see out there.
True a lot of it is about his role. He gets a lot less shots. I almost put up a poll here that said "Will Duncan Ever Have a 20 Point Game Again?" But then decided it was stupid (and a little insulting to a legend). I'm sure he'll have one at least by playoff time when his minutes go up and someone has to deliver. Timmy is nothing if not clutch.
That said, I do wonder if we've seen the last thirty point game of TD's career. Maybe so. Hope he proves me wrong!
