UNT you made the bet tbh. Just pay it before your reputation is ruined here beyond repair.

You're 22, surely you have a decent paying job by now. Paid internship, work in a research lab or something of that sort...
Tried for the internship last summer when my time for internship came up... got several interviews, but there were just too few last year and way too compe ive. This year, there are more... just bad timing for me, but what can I do?

Work in a research lab doesn't correspond to my major anymore... that's what you do if you're going to pharmacy school or something, but my pre-pharm days have been over for more than 2 years now.

Well, you are young and hopefully change, but if your personality on here is truly indicative of who you are, you might find life to be tough. Whenever there is little opportunity around you, maybe it's not the opportunity that's the issue.

"The Ivies have enormous endowments and very generous financial aid packages"

I'm an active alumnai from an Ivy league school. What you said is correct. All the Ivies agreed years ago that if two schools admitted a student, the financial aid would be based on need--including family income, expenses, number of children in school, et. so that all financial aid to individual student would be the same. At my daughter's Xmas party I ran into another recent grad from SA who came from a family with a very modest income. He paid virtually nothing for an Ivy education

I suspect this education and IQ story is another fantasy by NT Twit.
Incorrect. Can't speak for Harvard, but let's take a look at Stanford, for instance:

    http://financialaid.stanford.edu/undergrad/how/parent.html

Zero Parent Contribution for Parents with Income Below $65,000 For parents with total annual income below $65,000 and typical assets for this income range, Stanford will not expect a parent contribution toward educational costs. Students will still be expected to contribute toward their own expenses from their summer income, part-time work during the school year, and their own savings.

    Student Responsibility

Since you are the primary beneficiary of a Stanford education, we expect you to participate in paying for a portion of your college costs. Your financial aid package for the academic year will include an expected contribution from student earnings.

For most students, this expected contribution will be at least $5,000: at least $2,200 from prior earnings (particularly summer earnings), and $2,800 from part-time employment during the academic year. The total expected contribution from student earnings will vary based on individual cir stances.

In addition, you will be expected to contribute from your personal assets, such as savings and investments, if any. The contribution amount per academic year is set at 5% of your total assets as reported in your financial aid application materials.

You may choose to cover part or all of your expected contributions from earnings and assets with student loan funds. To request student loans, please send an email message to our office at [email protected].

    Estimated Costs
    Tuition and Fees 45,729
    Room and Board 14,107
    Personal/Books and Supplies 5,064
    Total Costs 64,900
    Scholarship/Grant Aid
    Estimated Scholarship/Grant (Learn more ») 52,100
Net Price (Costs less Scholarship/Grant Aid)
Estimated Net Price (Learn more ») 12,800
Anticipated Resources to Meet Net Price
    Estimated Parent Contribution 0
Estimated Student Contribution (Learn more ») 10,000
Student Academic Year Job (Learn more ») 2,800
Estimated Student Loan (Learn more ») 0

That's after entering my mom's income of $26,000 in 2012 and my own income of $0 in 2012. How the would I pay the $12,800?

Even a min wage job should provide you that money. I worked full time, while playing college sports (practice every day, travel for games all over the country) and went to all of my classes.

Please. There ain't in Denton except hipsters, stoners and commuters. And I don't have a car to get to Dallas or Plano or anything, so I either have to take the train or get a friend to take me. So I basically just oscillate between Denton and taking the Megabus to get to San Antonio (where I am currently for Spring Break).

That doesn't make sense. I'm not here to judge you. I honestly hope you do very well in life and are happy. I'm telling you how many people here view you and it's not good. You may care. You probably don't. But when things don't go your way, you will eventually have to look in the mirror and you will probably be disappointed in the guy you see staring back. Especially since you seem to make a lot of excuses.

Can't work more than 20 and do all my classes. Besides, 10 of my current 20 hours are virtual and it's still a lot on me.

We'll break down your argument, though.

    There's 168 hours in a seven-day week.

Subtract 63 for sleep (9*7) so we're down to 105 left.

Subtract 15 for a regular class load so we're down to 90 left.

Subtract 45 for homework/projects/studying/reading (it generally takes 3 times the amount of time preparing for every class than going to class, so 3*15) and we're down to 45 left.

Obviously, working 40 hours per week would take us down to 5, which is ridiculous. So I work 20 hours per week. Down to 25 left.

Subtract one hour per day for preparing for the day (showering, dressing etc), one hour per day twice per day for eating, and one hour combined for walking back to my apartment and getting ready for bed. That's (3*7 + 1) = 22.

That leaves a whopping 3 hours per week to do anything exciting, fun, relaxing etc... considering a full time course load and a half time job.

I did, while playing college sports too and getting my masters. Or, change your personality, land a job that pays more than min wage and you don't have to work as many hours (which is what I did, didn't have a min wage job and could work 25 hours a week to pay for things when I moved into my Masters).

I'm not going for a master's degree... bad ROI and kind of a waste of time if you're not working in academia or some kind of big trade school (lawyer/medical etc.)

My job pays $11.50, not minimum wage. Just got a raise from $10, though. The cost of a meal on campus is about $11 plus tax though

Who gets 9 hours of sleep in college? Many people work full time jobs and go to school full(like DPG). It's all about time management. Half your classes are online? I've only taken online classes in the summer, but in my experience they don't take that much time...

What's your major, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, she did make closer to 50K when she was teaching fulltime but the nice old man principal she had retired and the female that replaced him was a control freak and forced out all the nice lady teachers that didn't suck up to her, including my mom. My mom's been subbing ever since at NISD. ing ass.

Life is going to be hard for you. Not just because of your abrasive personality, but your mindset.

You act like a jerk, appear to be phobic/anti-Semitic and make excuses for everything. You tell a guy who has a masters and is doing well that his degrees were a waste of time while you are complaining about your inability to make 12K a year

I know you are trolling now, but if you are not, I really, really hope a positive influence comes into your life to change your direction.

My classes are NOT online, but half my work is online. It's grading about 300 Java programs every week. Doesn't take quite 10 hours most of the time but it's a pain in the ass.

And I do need to budget 9 hours of sleep... anything less than 8 on the nose and I'm REALLY groggy and want to fall asleep within 15 minutes of arriving to campus. And even that isn't always quite enough if I've been behind. I also have a hard time getting to sleep sometimes, but once I'm asleep I have a hard time waking up when I'm supposed to in the morning or daytime. I'm a big day sleeper, I'll admit it, especially when the weather is hot or raining outside all I want to do is sleep. in' Texas, man. I'm a natural-blooded night owl, though.

And I fully understand the answer to everything is not just work harder, but you seem to be making a lot of excuses and I doubt you are really trying to find a way to make things work. , you spend time on ST and not even in a good way - you spew stupidity and hate. Spend that time doing something positive instead

It's one thread. For me, nothing better I can do with my hour this Sunday than try to make someone understand they can be better.

None of us really know each other and we all interact. What's the big deal if 1% of that time we actually try to help someone who's clearly got some issues. A lot of people (myself included) could probably benefit from having someone talk some sense into us.

I spend time on ST because I've invested 82 * 15 (+ playoffs) worth of nights on the Spurs throughout my life.
