We all know today's league has carebear rules when it comes to fouls, but as a lot of posters on here like to claim, MJ allegedly got a lot of FTAs and ref help. So are wing stars today getting less FTAs per FGA than even the legendary Michael Jordan did throughout his career?

    Nope.

Jordan had a lower FTA:FGA ratio than nearly all of the top scoring wing stars do today, and that's despite getting fouled much harder with no calls while the players today shoot more threes which = less contact on shots while Jordan was often attacking the basket and getting contested at the rim, making the disparity actually even wider than the stats appear.

    Jordan: 0.3575
    Kobe: 0.3821 (7% more)
    LeBron: 0.4225 (18% more)
    Durant: 0.4262 (18% more)
    Westbrook: 0.3929 (10% more)
    Harden: 0.5412 (51% more)
    Carmello: 0.3795 (6% more)
    Pierce: 0.4416 (24% more)
    Wade: 0.4501(29% more)
Even DeMar DeRozan: 0.4054 (13.4% more)

He got less ref help than nearly any wing star does today despite being the clear draw for the NBA for like a decade. Jordan got fouled harder and more frequently yet still got less FTAs than any wing star today.

The ones that shoot more threes and long range jumpers are lesser than others (like Kobe), but still notably higher than the decade-long face of the NBA. Those that attack the basket roughly as much as MJ did, as you can see, get 20-30% more FTAs than MJ did (with Harden being the anomaly with over 50% more).

The game was so much more physical with hand checking allowed its hard to compare. He did push off to get that jumper off on occasion. Craig Ehlo and the Cavs.

Jordan got lots of love from the refs......but also had to earn a lot of calls. Of course, he didn't get anywhere near the calls malone got. He also got nowhere near the love guys like dirk, harden, paul, or GS gets

If Jordan was coddled, there wouldn't have been a need for the Jordan rules nor for it to be successful.

Don't forget some of the team calls Jordan benefitted from.
Modern day gay / trannie athletes being glorified had some of it's NBA beginnings in Rodman. He was an entertainment novelty item and rating grabber for Casual Fan. A lot of the calls Rodman got in many games were Lakerlike.

Stern had to change the rules just to finally push Dad Killer past the Bad Boy Pistons. Then he changed the rules again to make it easier on DK when he returned from his gambling suspension (which would not have been covered up as a "retirement" for any other player).

Rodman was constantly in foul trouble tbh and it annoyed a lot of Bulls fans. If you're gonna site people getting ref love, don't site the one player on MJ's Bulls who got the least ref love. . .lol.

Lmao. . .what rules did they change to help him past the Pistons? The only rules they changed was bringing in the 3pt line in desperation to increase scoring/ratings when MJ retired then they moved it back out when he returned. . .lol.

Also thanks for the tin foil hat theory claiming he got suspended.

pssssh Rodmans flopping was on par with Dereek Swisher.
He was a novelty item with his different hair colors, nose rings etc he became a media darling/temporary ratings grabber.
Watch the Sonics series on the Classic Channel.

He was in foul trouble because he did foul. It was part of his game plan.
