Time to retire the 760
Polaris 10 is going to be targeting the mainstream too. Straight from AMD Roy, they're not trying to compete with GP104 and they won't have anything in this performance bracket until 2017. I guess they're waiting for HMB2 availability before they try to compete with GP104.
You shouldn't be surprised it's better than a an X off a node shrink, this is exactly what you should expect off one. The $380 MSRP is a nice surprise though. But reading through Nvidia's press release, they have only committed to launching the Founders Editions on June 10, and those are $450 and have that ty reference cooler. You should definitely wait for the aftermarket cards from EVGA or MSI though unless your case has really ing horrible airflow.
I wonder if we'll see full Polaris 10 for $225-$250. Any more expensive and it's going to have a really ing hard time against the 1070.
AMD is going to have to slash the out of their prices on Fury X, Fury, and Fury Nano just like they did with R9 290 to compete with the 1070. Which is going to completely them over again just like with 290, because the Fury GPUs with HBM1 and a huge 596mm^2 die are really expensive to make. I bet they cost significantly more than the 320mm^2 GTX 1070 with GDDR5 cost to make.
So what price range do you think they'll target? A 390 equivalent in the ~$250 range?
Bummer but I can wait. And yeah I think I'll wait for MSI's version. Their cards have been good to me in the past.
Exactly my thinking. Anything $300+ and I imagine it'd be hard to justify not just s ing out a bit more for a 1070.
AMD ed
I anticipate buying an EVGA 1080, but I'll probably wait for the new games to come around in the Christmas season since my 970 still does great in everything out there but Quantum Break and Hitman. If my 970 is still kicking ass I'll wait another generation I guess. I can't see myself ever buying the full Pascal GP100 chip even when it's $650-$700 as a 1080 Ti, as I don't want a ing 300W card.
Also, LOL at the sunburn Luke has. Stupid Canadians can't handle Texas in the spring.

Credits to DJR210 for dancing on AMD's grave
Word, that's understandable.
How future proof do you think these cards are? I mean we'd have to see some revolutionary graphics increase in the next year or two to push a 1080 right?
Probably not much, gpus are never very future proof.
only having low end crap from Polaris 10
Vega not coming out until 2017
needing to slash prices on a ~600mm^2 chip to compete with a ~320mm^2 chip
having It's Pat as the company CEO
not having a good CPU since 2009
AMD
damn how did I miss this thread

Zen flopping is going to be the straw that broke the camel's back
To be fair the 390 ended up being a really good card thanks to the memory overclock it got out the box. The rest of the series was garbage though. I mean they rebranded the R7 265 as the R7 370 that gets beat by the R9 270? The R9 380x being weaker than the R9 280x? How the do you go down in performance in two brackets in a later generation?
Holy if full Polaris 10 ends up being the R9 490x and actually goes down in performance from the R9 390x = R9 290x.
Cry Havoc on the tombstone
The 1070 really does look significantly cut down from 1080, I imagine there will be a 20-25% performance delta between the two. The 970 was only 15% slower than the 970 and the 670 was only 8% slower than the 680. You can't really compare 770 and 780 the same way, the 770 was the full Kepler midrange chip (GK104) with an overclock (basically an overclocked 680), while the 780 was a very cut down version of the big die Kepler chip GK110. Still that was only a 15% difference at launch also. The 1070 definitely looks like the most cut down 70 series chip from Nvidia yet. It makes sense though, since I don't think the 980 sold very well due to the 970 being so strong.
My 09 Toshiba is runnng on AMD
AMD Vision I think lol
LOL...
That's a fair editing job!
r9 280 owner checking in
Damn Logan from TekSyndicate let it slip that we won't get reviews until launch day on May 27th, check the 3:00 mark of this video.
