Pop last seen as difference-making coach on Spurs bench![]()
Pop calls it "pounding the rock."
Cojo playing in the eastern conference finals but couldn't get off the bench playing for Pop against the Clippers. Even with Ausitin Rivers going HAM on Patty.
Jefferson didnt go to the Finals with Pop...
But he did with ing Byron Scott and Lue![]()
Russell Westbrook Recommended Thunder Take Out Enes Kanter
Russell Westbrook recommended the Oklahoma City Thunder take Enes Kanter out of the game midway through the second quarter of Game 4.
With Draymond Green shooting a pair of free throws, Westbrook walked over to the Oklahoma City bench. Westbrook first talked to Maurice Cheeks and then to Billy Donovan.
"Take him out," said Westbrook, referring to Kanter.
Donovan, after a brief consultation with Cheeks, went down the bench, called for Andre Roberson to come to the scorer’s table and removed Kanter from the game.
“I’ve tried to foster that kind of stuff because I think what happens a lot of times with players is a lot of times it may be, I don’t want them to feel like they can’t come to me,” Donovan said.
“I want Kevin and Russell and those guys that have been here and have invested so much to be able to communicate with me, and I want to be able to go to them.
“[One thing] I try to do is to get both parties to have ownership. You can sit here and say, ‘Do this, this and this,’ not explain it and say, ‘I’m the coach. It’s my way or the highway,’ and they’re not really bought into it and before you know it you’re never really maximizing what you can do together, so I try to create a situation where there’s accountability for both of us. We’re both on the hook.”
Kanter has been a liability for the Thunder on defense due to his inability to switch out on the Warriors' guards.

Will Pop handle the situation the same way Donovan did, or will players be consigned to Pop's doghouse for having the audacity to speak up?
I saw that too.
No way Pop pulls David West. And if it was Kawhi doing the asking, he would get benched for 8 straight minutes as punishment
I do think they speak out just that stays between them bc Pop did talk a lot with the big 3 and probably does the same with the big 2. We probably don't see them or are aware bc Spurs avoid making issues out of that.
Pop needs to think about retiring now. He was terrible last year too. Spurs need to bring in a new coach who isn't so stubborn, can actually make adjustments and who isn't so sentimental to the big three. He clearly has some unspoken agreement with the Duncan, Manu and Parker. They had a great run, time for the team to move on. Winning has to take precedence over this sentimental loyalty eventually.

Bob Voulgaris " you would think Pop was Randy wittman in that series"
@ 36:00 starts talking about the Spurs..
Hind sight......attack Kanter....with who?
Make better shots? With what playmaker?
The Randy Whitman comment was about the long two shots. We all know why pop went all in on the long two. We don't have 3pt shooters, We don't have a dominant center. We have kawhi and lma.
Their most revealing comment was "I'm mad pop made me lose my bets" boo hoo.
Like most of these "pop should be blamed" articles and podcasts this one too spends half the time qualifying their criticism (coaching is hard, we don't know, they probably couldn't win even if they did the right things).
You pop haters are literally sucking the salt from whatever nut sacks appear saltiest
You ain't getting a pass for this, crater face
Getting your pushed in, in the 4th quarter by Chokelahoma![]()
dude hasn't lost to a team that went on win the le since 2002 Lakers..always getting punked by flawed coaches/teams or both![]()
Pop is predictable as . Even scrub coaches know when to time their runs when Pop makes his subs utions like clockwork. And they don't have to worry about adjustments since Pop prefers to "pound the rock" right up to elimination games. Once there, Pop will panic with bizzare lineups before quitting in 3rd quarters when the deficit grows too big.
Pop's first words to Donovan after Monday...
- It's just basketball Billy. Did you know that NASA...
Hopefully he redeems himself this Summer by buddying up with Durant, leading to Durantula's signing with a franchise that will teach him how to win.
All will be forgiven if Poop pulls that off.
Or he could make his rotations look decent.
Why he sat his best defenders at the same time?
Why he sat Kawhi and LMA at the same time in the 4th quarter?
Why he was too reluctant to call plays in the 4th quarter?
Why he played Tim just micro minutes instead of put him a bit more with Boris/West?
Pop goes the season cause the season goes Pop
Wish we were back in 2000s when only Phil Jackson/Lakers used to psyche him out and get the better of his teams
Two consecutive seasons we lose to renowned choke artists who get spotted 3-1 series lead the round after they beat us...we go up 2-1 on meltdown-prone, flawed teams and yet we end up unraveling ourselves in large part to his stubborn ass..
Could Pop get on as an assistant to Steve Kerr?
