Parsons for 90M or so? Mavs dodged a bullet. If healthy, he upgrades them but I just don't see how you pay someone that much that doesn't make you a contender or from a non-playoff team to a good playoff team.

The Spurs should have (and perhaps they still will) concentrate on trades not free agents - if only they can be less Spursy in their loyalties. There is much greater value in acquiring an existing contract (especially one that still has 3 years remaining) than in overpaying a free agent. The Durant meeting is a head scratcher. Perhaps both sides are going through the motions because each earns a little cache from being on the other's list.
    1. Who says the Spurs didn't try to make a trade for the past month? Just because a trade doesn't happen, doesn't mean the Spurs didn't try. I don't get why fans can't understand this. The past 2 weeks on Twitter, you hear fans complain that Spurs aren't doing anything -- when in reality I'm sure R.C and the FO took and made several calls to try to make a deal happen.

Of course Parson's wanted to be courted and "be the man and top priority". It's not enough to get the damn money, cater to me even though I've done nothing and every team I leave hates me

Where do they play? Spurs are loaded at wing as it is. It's their most loaded position. Why use assets to keep stock-piling?

They usually only go 5-6 deep at the wing.

Kawhi/Green -- Manu (maybe) /Simmons/Anderson/Bertans/LJC (combo more of a PF)/ Murray (combo more of a PG). That's 7-8 guys on the roster who can play the SF or SG, even though LJC is a PF/Murray a PG first.

I know, roster spots are a problem. You just see some guys that could make tremendous trade bait next year, if nothing else. I keep thinking that the crazy spending at the top end is going to make for some real bargains at the bottom, if you can pick the gems.

If you're talking about guys padding stats on bad teams - Ennis has shown that he can knock down 3's. That translates anywhere, if he can keep it up. A couple of seasons ago, he shot something like .450 from the 3, and those last games in NO he shot almost .500. Imagine if Chip can help him be consistent, and do it for a whole season.

    But, yeah... roster spots.

He's a fraud. Not a fan of Parsons at all. He had one great year and that's it.

No way Portland keeps Harkless and Crabbe now. Especially with having to pay CJ and Mason next summer.

Like TD21 said, they didn't just pull these cap numbers out of thin air. There's a reason why the cap went up - league revenue is higher than it's ever been. It's not like teams are being forced to pay guys more without making more money themselves. Have you seen some of these TV deals? These teams are making an absolute ton of money.
Well sure the revenue is going up, but the leap in the cap will lead to some very expensive blunders that have the potential of creating a whole class of bad teams that are burdened by very bad contracts.

    1. I never said that.

    2. I don't have to get used to anything - not my money. But it is the equivalent of a guy who has been in Vegas playing black jack at the $10 table suddenly moving over to the $50 table. Mistakes will be disproportionately risky until everything has time to cycle, and the true superstars all have a place at the table.

I think they keep Crabbe for sure (IMO) but others may go now if Parson chooses them. He may get an offer from another team as well to choose from.

If the rumor is true, Chandler Parsons will be getting something like 22% of the cap. That's the equivalent of about 15.5M last season. It's looking like Bazemore may get the equivalent of around $14-14.5M, in last year's money? Were those two guys worth that much last season? Maybe you think so - I don't.
