I think he's giving Atlanta until tonight to free up money to sign him. If he wants to win he'll go to Boston. There isn't much to think about.
Michael Wright seems to think that Timmy may have joined the meeting after all:

Take it for what it's worth. This was recorded this morning, I think.
Didn't know we could offer more money. That's got to count for something
I highly doubt Durant leaves OKC. But if he did hopefully anybody but GSW. If he goes to Boston at least Westbrook would be up for grabs next year.
It's not that we can offer more money per se, it's just that good ol' Uncle Sam (although I realize it's at the state level) takes less away from him.
I think only around half of each amount will be his NBA contract; I guess the rest is known endorsement contracts.
I know about the jock tax, i.e. that players pay taxes based on where the games are located. But do players with large endorsement contracts get to claim residence in a no-state-income-tax state regardless of what team they play for? Or if Durant plays in California would he have to pay state income tax on any non-NBA salary income?
How does it work over there in the US? Does he end up with more money in hand after taxes are taken out if he signs with the Spurs or Heat even though an OKC contract would be bigger before taxes? or have I got that totally wrong?
That is correct.
Players that play in states with no state income tax (i.e. Florida and Texas) benefit from not having to pay state taxes on more than half of their annual salary.
Yes. Our state governments also have the option to tax income. Several choose not to, with Texas and Florida being the most prominent. So Durant is taxed twice at the other locales. However, it's significantly more complicated than this it making it seem like. The Spurs should should actually be ahead of Miami, because they play more of their games in tax-free states (49) than Miami does (47). And then you get into individual tax rates for the states (like what's worse: playing so many games in CA with its high tax rates for WC teams or playing on the East Coast with it's own high-tax states). It's actually really hard to get accurate numbers.
Wow. That's crazy. At least it's good to know that the Spurs are not at a disadvantage salary wise. It's all about the pitch and long term plan now.
Wouldn't mind acquiring Tyler Zeller. A blend of Splitter and David West on offense.
41 home games plus road games vs Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Miami and Orlando and you're looking at around 45-48 games with no income tax. I wonder if players even think about this before they sign somewhere.
I hate to say it, but they can't be that dumb and just look at the total number, do they?
That Nate Jones got talking about the Spurs again on twitter

Can't wait to beat him out on Gasol too...![]()
All very interesting, but if he wants more than a 1+1 OKC has that 5th year trump card
I don't know but some of these signing make me scratch my head. I mean, Lou Deng has to know that a little more than half of his $72 million deal is going to be taxed at the California rate of 13.3% PLUS he's going to be playing for a cellar dweller in the Lakers.
With the amount of money being given out, it's probably in his best interest to sign a 1+1 deal. Unless he only cares about winning, then I guess locking himself in longer term at a lower salary than he can get next year can help whatever team he signs with to add more pieces in the future. He's also got that huge Nike contract, so really, if I was him, I'd put winning consistently for a lot of years above most everything else.
The Spurs can also say they have both LMA and Kawhi locked into cheaper deals, so they should have more flexibility to add more pieces in the future than teams who are giving out huge contracts to mediocre players.

I'm pretty sure someone will post if they have any updates. lol - I don't know whether or not to leave the room.
Durant is not going to look at a few million saved in taxes.
The updates will be that he was very impressed like all his other meetings.
