Point guards? We don't need no steenking point guards!
Haha - just saying that with Murray (not ideal) they at least have something. With Tim gone, West gone, likely Boban too, losing Boris means no replacement currently on roster.

SA likely has to trade. Maybe even a S&T with Bulls to keep the MLE and add pieces that way.

I kind of hate this deal, to be honest. The team couldn't afford to lose more rotation players, and they are definitely losing one to make this happen. They have about $16 Million assuming Tim retired and took nothing, and they have about $13.5 Million if they just stretch him. That's enough to give Pau something that approaches his reported contract, but it leaves no Boban, and it makes the room exception an either/or thing with Manu and Bertans. Hope that one takes the min, of course. Still, the backup center spot is really weak with no money to fix it unless the team loses further rotation players, who in turn will have to be replaced and so on.

That's what I've been talking about. One step forward and at least one step back. Plus they have $15M in cap taken up next season, if Pau decides to exercise it. That's a big chunk not in the Spurs' hands. Again.

Meh... this was never going to be a happy offseason. Too many needs, too little money, and too many compe ors with deep pockets.

Nah easily the best the Spurs could do all things considered (Duncan retiring, cap/market situation, etc). It was a must for them. Plus, they might have some other things lined up as well.

As far as boban goes, who knows what kinda contract he will get in this market and he might have been moving on regardless of Pau.

No brainer move for Spurs and sets them up as players for next summer still.

So let me get this straight... Diaw and Boban are gone to create room for Pau?
That's one avenue that seems like the obvious one, but it's not for sure. We have to see. SA can elect to go cap space route and trade guys or stay over the cap and have the MLE by doing a S&T with Bulls. Not sure what they will do - lots of variables especially when trading is involved.

Either way, someone will have to be moved to make room even if Tim is stretched.

Does anyone think SA does a S&T with CHI to keep the MLE/stay over the cap? I really hope so, just don't know for who.
For that much money, Mills and Diaw get it done, and I actually think they'd be welcome in Chicago. But all that buys is the MLE and LLE instead of the room exception, and now you have 2-3 rotation players to replace rather than just 1.

Everybody's down but still probably win 60+ games next season. So few teams can hang with us.

The backup center position isn't much of a concern. The 3rd best big needs to be a pf and we'll be running a 3 big rotation when it matters.

I can't see LJC playing PF or much in nba honestly. Hopefully he has improved overnight smh

<5% chance they do that. Don't worry. Gasol does not cost SA Danny.

At least Kawhi more at the 4 in smaller lineups would be very welcome.

Everybody expects to get better every offseason, but sometime it takes a miracle to stay just as good as you were.

That said we'll still win 60 or so. These are still good days. Spurs fans can't even remember what "bad" seasons are like it.

Well - Nate Duncan just reminded me that 1+1 deals can't be S&T....so there goes that.

Plus Woj saying Boris is going to be moved as well..

If Woj is right the Spurs won't have a backup power forward.

    This move is bad.

Well, SA needed a starting C first and foremost and I think Pau over last year Duncan is an improvement which means the SL is so damn good.

I Pau opts out unless he suffers a huge injury (whether he fits or not) so I don't think it's a huge risk, but it's a risk for next year's cap space.

Have to keep plugging holes but better to do that on bench than SL.

Diaw and Boban leaving wouldn't be that bad if Duncan were returning and West was willing to take the min again. But Tim and Boban is awful unless a decent center really wants to step in for nothing. They can get around $13 Million by just trading Mills, and that's an idea with Arcidiacono and Forbes as possible replacements along with the possibility of Neal returning. But this just got a whole lot dicier.

I don't see many options, but it would be good for Spurs to take back player rights or a player on a minimum contract for Boris...if they also intend to stretch Duncan.

A few ideas: Furkan Korkmaz, Allessandro Gentile, Robert Covington.

If Boris is moved for nothing, it's really bad. If he's moved for a player on a rookie contract (as that would open up the money the team needs both for Pau and Bertans), then that makes a lot more sense.
