Tim as a 10-15 minute guy would work. Still think he's back for one more year but in a very reduced role.

You know what...this isn't directed at YOU at all so don't think this is an attack fam, but I've been long at a point where I feel like that's the media's way of disrespecting Duncan. I mean let's be real, the guy was the best PF ever after 2003. Rookie of the year, ring in his second, two repeat MVPs (top 5 finish in each year), all defense/all nba each year, 2-time finals MVP, and his 2003 magnus opus. It was hammered home in 2007 with no one in the discussion. That was TEN YEARS ago and that's all people jump to is the GOAT PF. No one says Jordan is the GOAT SG or Lebron the GOAT SF at this point. Its best ever or top 5. The media and casual dumb fans have always reserved top GOAT talk for perimeter players and hype machines.

Duncan's beyond a point of top 5 inclusion...he's at a point where one needs to argue how he ISN'T a Top 5 player. I just feel that the media and casuals of more popular players jump on the "GOAT PF" as a level of feigned respect so that it acknowledges someone who most respect but all while not ever having to consider he's in Mount Rushmore territory officially but they can reserve that for their favorite over-hyped star (Kobe, Lebron, Bird etc). Again its not a knock on you at all but i just cringe when I hear it now because it has described the BASEMENT of his legacy for over ten years now and not his ceiling and I think its by design from many including the media.
    +1

If Duncan indeed retires, San Antonio may waive and stretch legendary No. 21, reducing TD's cap hit to $2.1 mil over the next three season

It remains to be seen, who San Antonio sheds in trade -- or what happens with Tim Duncan -- to create the needed cap space to sign Pau Gasol

Nothing new here. This was always the case. Literally no reason to come back, especially with Durant signing with golden state.
He will retire having never OFFICIALLY lost a regular season home game to the Duds (he was inactive when the Spurs lost at AT&T).

I don't get it. With Gasol coming here, why not have Timmy anchor the bench defence for 15 to 20 minutes a game?

Don't do it Tim... Dominos to GS is more reason to have a justified farewell tour
    This.

With Manu back, might as well have the farewell tour go out in style. Plus low expectations after Durant's ass move.

I wouldn't have wanted to see him try another year and find out that his body just wouldn't let him play any better than the end of this season. That would be too painful to watch. If he makes this decision it will be because he feels he CAN'T play, not because he doesn't want to play. Thank God we've had him healthy and productive all these years. What a ride it's been.

I don't think the Durant news had anything to do with this because he couldn't really play against them anyway. I think Duncan badly wanted to play another season (maybe more, had his knee held up), but realized he couldn't physically do it anymore and didn't want to play at such a diminished level.

As much as I'd like to see him continue playing, if he couldn't do so at something close to his level before his right knee went, I'd rather see him retire than hobble through a full season.
