You're right on everything you said...but ease up on Timmy. He's the GOAT he can do whatever he wants at anytime..the ultimate exception
Forget that. He could have done whatever he wanted while opting out. He chose to put money into this cap situation, and he really does owe it to them to be reasonable with this decision, especially considering they're about to give him a fortune to sit at home.

Well you're ignoring the fact that he's torn. We're talking about one of the greats contemplation if he wants to continue..seems like there's still a little fire. I don't care what the Spurs do rest of season if I get to see 21 play a "official" final year I'd do it.

    Parker/Danny/Kawhi/LMA/Pau

    Bench for sure: Mills/Murray/Simmons/Kyle

If Bertans gets cap space, Manu gets Room Exception that gives SA a bench of:

    Mills/Manu/Simmons/Kyle/Bertans/Murray

That is only 11 players and at least two bigs short with nothing but minimum contracts and trades to fill the holes.

He doesn't move without the ball as well as Korver, he's more like ST favorite washed up Keith Van Horn w/ a quicker release.

You wish, Bartnes is not nba level player at all, too soft, too weak, too slow, keep dreaming!!

Don't forget that either Tim is a Spur, or they likely can afford another decent free agent, or at least keep Boban.

This site has both Bertrans and Ryan Arcidiacono signed for the minimum:

    http://www.spotrac.com/nba/san-antonio-spurs/cap/

Looks like they update pretty much instantly too, which is nice, if correct (personally have no connection with the site)

That's right, because if Manu takes the RE, then SA would have ~4M in cap space even after Bertans if he's getting the min or close.

In your scenario you have Tim at 2M in cap space because he's stretched correct.

Also, if they really did give Arci a contract, moving Mills could be in play...

My gut has told me all along he will play one more year. As such, I haven't even mentally prepared for the fact that we may never see a #21 don a Spurs jersey.

In retrospect, it would probably be most Duncan-like for him to retire now...to avoid the glitz of a farewell tour which he personally criticized (re: Kobe) and just walk off into the sunset under the radar. If he comes back for "one more year", it's gonna be hard to avoid the spotlight.

I have simply no idea what he is going to do at this point. And considering the fact that Tim took the option but hasn't announced anything since...its possible he doesn't quite know either.

I'm not impressed with him at all. Hoping he's not on the team - especially instead of Patty.

He's been underwhelming for sure. Very timid. He's a decent floor leader and looks to make plays for everyone else, but hasn't really looked for his own shot in the first two summer league games.

It's just a min deal right now, they could cut him anytime, i suppose, or just fill in that 3rd stringer PG role

I'm saying if you trade Patty, now you are down a player for him then if you cut him, really tough. Spurs guard depth, even with Manu, is rough and can't afford to trade Mills unless you get a proven NBA player.

Well, my thinking was Manu could just be the de-facto backup PG. They could go cheap with a shooter like Forbes and trade Patty's $3m deal for something better than a min deal big.

Well, they have their two former first round picks in LCJ and Mulitinov, but yeah, the point is well taken: the big situation is rough.

I know it was probably prearranged and Jean-Charles could attempt to force their hand, but they really can't afford to be handing a player, who by all accounts doesn't appear to be an NBA player, a roster spot.

If Forbes pulls a Neal and basically forces his way onto the team, they'll only have one spot left and they'll need both a rotation caliber power forward (even if the plan is to play Anderson mostly as the backup power forward, there's certain match-ups he won't be able to play it and if Aldridge went down, they'd be screwed) and depth center.

Yes, and that's what I've been assuming for a long time. The room exception is quite a bit bigger than that, though. The reason why it would be a disappointment is because it could break up what is actually a pretty good asset, when they'd have the cap room is Duncan just made his damned decision. Who the needs until 7/10 to make up their minds? That's just so random.
Who says Tim hasn't made up his mind? Just because it isn't public...

Well, the fact SA has made the moves they made and the route they have chosen to go about things makes it pretty clear SA doesn't know yet.
