Vonleh certainly has the physical tools, but he's not going to develop as a big man at Portland.

Things may turn out differently if he has high BBIQ big men team mates like Timmy or Pau to mentor him.

at people saying Skal was a bust. He's out here stroking threes. He has a good skillset. Athletic and mobile and can stretch the floor.

I talked to Bertans again as we were leaving. He said hes hopeful to play on Tuesday's game against the Bulls. Saw Jean-Charles there too, but didn't get around to talking to him. Also talked with RC, Brent Barry, Arcidiacono and Ndoye. All very nice.

Did you see the Chicago game a couple of nights ago? The one guy I had hoped the Spurs might be able to trade up for was Denzel Valentine. I have a buddy who's out there and says he looked very composed for a rookie, but his shot wasn't falling. I looked at the stats and holy - he went 4-16 and 0-9 from 3P. But he apparently did a lot of other things well. If you have a chance to talk to him, I'd like to hear what you think. I just have a feeling he's going to be one of those guys who is very solid, but may not get the attention. Perfect Spur.

A lot of the guys who have completed 4 years of college are looking composed at the moment. As the starting point guard for the Bucks' summer league team, Brogdon just had back-to-back games of 50%+ shooting (7/14 and 7/12) and 4-5 assists per game after an ordinary 9-point and 11-rebound first game. They are simply better prepared than those one-and-done guys.

On the other hand, it looked like Thon Maker just came back down to earth after his hot start of rebounding the ball in his first two outings.

Saw Luke Walton pull Russell aside the other night and talk to him while they were cutting to a commercial or something.. You couldn't get much audio from it but it looked like he was talking to him about acting like you've been there.. helps with teammates trust or something.. Today's game with GS had him less show offy and more composed and then his interview after the game was tame..

Patrick McCaw is looking solid so far - hope GS didn't get another good guard in the draft.

He's impressed me too. Good offense and very good defender.

Yeah, especially a second-rounder that they bought for cash. They paid Milwaukee a little over $2M for the pick/rights, IIRC, and then signed the kid to a 2-year min-contract deal. With the Spurs being light at the 1 and 5 (as I see it), McCaw was one of the plays I was hoping they would make. When I saw him falling out of the first round, I really thought we might hear about them picking up somebody's early second-round pick for him. But noooooo.... the Warriors needed yet another guard.

I don't know if he'll work out or not, but the Dubs didn't screw around with partial guarantees, or team options. They signed him to a 2-year fully-guaranteed deal right away. GSW's FO is looking a lot like their team - young and agile. They have so many good, veteran players, and they needed to round out a roster on the cheap. I think they may have gotten themselves a bargain in the process.

I hope GSW falls in love with veteran and waive this McCaw kid to open up a roster spot for veteran. I understand it's a Pipe dream though

Really well said. The Warriors are excellent from top to bottom, from ownership down. I respect the out of them. And just as I've grown accustom to the Spurs making the most of everything they do, I now expect to see the Warriors have some victory each draft, free agency, summer league, and training camp.

With all the Spurs front office and coaching staff now in different teams, we can't expect the Spurs to be the only one with any smarts.

    Those days are over.

My guess is that as a first-rounder, his contract is easy -- as is the insurance agreement. Bertans has to worry about getting the exactly dollar amount taken care of, which might be affected by the order of signings.

Anyway, it's great news. I just hope LJC gets a lot of minutes. It's going to be hard to see him getting those if Anderson taking so many PF minutes and there already being a three-center rotation. I guess they can demote Forbes and move some others around, but I would rather not do that.

My expectations are so low that I'm more excited about seeing Olivier Hanlan.

Was he on the roster for last game? I didn't see him play. Would love to see how he fits in the compe ion with Forbes and Arcidiacono. LJC is exciting in the very least because he's going to be a Spurs for at least two seasons. Have to see what he can do now that he's going to be developing on the team's dime.

Becky mentions defense and rebounding but not talking about LJC's offense as an expected contribution is not encouraging

According to Jeff McDumbass, he was added to the roster before game 1, but he hasn't sniffed any time. He looked useful to me when he played against the Spurs in Utah. As bad as Simmons has been at running the point, I'm excited about anyone that can bring the ball up without dribbling it off his foot.

The Spurs don't need him to score points, they need him to rebound, block shots, not get lost and not foul excessively.
