Care to explain why fatbol managers wear these outfits?

Are they going to spontaneously enter the game and play? It's probably the only "sport" where a 70yr old dude could play (i.e. pinch bunt )

Why are they the only managers in the world of sport to do this?

In the early days of baseball, player-managers were quite common (I guess this was another inspiration from cricket, where the team's captain is basically the manager) and played in the game, so the tradition stuck.

Don't see the problem here? Seems like another frivolous thing to criticize.

If we want to talk about things that don't happen in any other sport, why does floptrot have the most ties by far? That's a legit criticism that speaks to the design flaw of the game.

Because it is ing re ed? Stuck in the past? Failure to evolve?

old white men like Dale are the last remnants of fans for this "sport"

So putting old white men in suits is the answer?

That's even more "square" than managers wearing the team's uniform

Baseball has evolved, though. Instant replay was added. Homeplate umps using pitchtrax should happen in the next 5 years. The strike-zone will made smaller next season, which should produce more offense.

As for age demos, check out how the MLB has more frequent attenders in the 18-34 range than ML .

    Baseball is still doing fine:

    Floptrot not even registering

Why do you keep trying to bring football into this conversation?

This thread is about the ridiculousness of fatbol coaches cosplaying as if they're about to enter the game in the 22nd inning, 6 hours in, and pinch bunt or some .

Every year, the median viewing age gets one year older. It’s a trend line that ends in a graveyard.

    ...

The general trend is particularly challenging for baseball. To follow one team for every inning of a 162-game season takes about 480 hours—that’s two months’ worth of full-time work.

For even younger fans, MLB focuses on merchandise. In 2010 the league formed a partnership with Disney to bring out team-branded Mickey Mouse figurines. And this year the league is launching co-branded o Kitty merchandise for all 30 teams.

The larger strategy is for quick-hit highlights, celebrity personalities, and o Kitty hats to serve as gateway drugs for hours of baseball viewing later in life.
2 months of "work" to watch a "sport"

    o Kitty branding
    Mickey Mouse branding

    Key phrase "National Telecasts."

No one tunes into ESPN to watch baseball. They're watching their own team on a regional network.

Baseball even beats the NBA playoffs on the RSNs:

Yeah, because millennials are committed to live local broadcasts

Why not? Why would any millennial sports fan watch the Cubs vs. Mets on ESPN when they can watch the same game on the local network with the entertaining homer commentators?

Baseball wins its market hands down, so people are obviously watching, including millennials.

Young people's interest is also not a good gauge of long term interest. I had my "disinterested" in baseball phase when every kid wanted to be like Mike in the 90's, and basketball was the "cool" and "hip" sport. I also had a small soccer phase , but I can only take so many ties and Mario Party.

To be fair they could probably do just as well as the "athletes" out on the field so it's kind of understandable

So that would make 50 year old men more athletic than floptrot players, considering the average baseball player is more athletic than the average floptrot player
