    Davis tooting Francis' horn
Steve Francis has been phenomenal for the Orlando Magic, but he is still Steve Francis.

He still alternates incredible moments with bizarre turnovers and instances of dribbling out the shot clock.

It might be the honeymoon period, but the Magic are happy — actually thrilled — with the total package. More than that, Magic coach Johnny Davis said convincingly that harnessing the bad Steve could suppress the good Steve.

"With any player or entertainer who is good at something, you have to allow for creativity," Davis said. "If you stifle the creativity, you stifle the player. But along with that is a discipline that's involved so that it's not totally freelance.

"It's like a jazz ensemble where the group all has to be in sync. But you also have some solo acts mixed in there. But ultimately that solo part comes back to join the group and functions as one."

It is all too obvious that Davis reads this forum and he had to come in here and set the record straight for what I have been telling numbnuts like TPark for a year now.

He even used the same word, stifle.

So he's an incredible talent that still makes dumbass mistakes, but they hope to work through them and over time reduce them by instilling him with discipline?

How is this different then what most of Francis' critics here have said? (Although we're a little harsher because it's so much fun to yank your chain on it!)

Grant Hill is the key to that team. He'll provide the maturity, stability, and leadership that Steve never had in a teammate in Houston. Not having to carry that leadership load all by himself will ease some of the pressure on him and allow him to stop pressing, and play better, smarter basketball.

I never said that he was mistake free, but TPark and a lot of you said he was a no talent ball hog who is overrated, and that my friend is dead wrong. Francis is more talented than any Spur not named TD or Manu, and he is not overrated because he can do so much on a court to win games for you. He is the best rebounding guard in the league hands down, he is a wonderful penetrator and he can finish better than 99% of the league. He is also a very solid midrange shooter and can make passes that few others can make. His FT shooting is in the top 10% in the league. He is one of the best one on one defenders at his position in the NBA, and is one of the league leaders in steals year in year. Now, you tell me with a straight face that he is overrated.

The only thing I can get form this is that Davis must be an Archie Bunker fan, he is the last person I heard use the word "stifle." And also I think the big difference in the Magic is Grant Hill not Francis.

I used the word all week in my posts about how VG stifled Francis.

If anyone on the Trajik read this forum, they would have never traded for Selfish Stevie. I don't care how many assists he shows, that's simply a factor of him hogging the ball, frequently until the clock says 1.

Instructions for use: Simply open and let contents represent the sound of Jim's posting after witnessing a poor performance by Steve Francis. Thank you for choosing Can O' Crickets!

Seriously though, he's a great talent, but it's frustrating that he still has a lot to learn.

Seriously, I will not have to worry about that this year. When his shot is off like today, he does other things that help the team. He had 6 steals today, a team record.

One more thing, Jimbo. If he was so "held down", why did he only last year FINALLY make the playoffs, and why wasn't team improvement enough for him?

This is still better than TP's 1-7...check the %.

Also 6 steals, no Spur in recent history has had 6 steals.
