"Only pussies and assholes lodge the asterisk" -Cul of Burn
All we need to know was that everyone was snorting coke back in the 80s, and yet only two teams were destroyed due to suspensions to drug uses in that era - the rockets and the Mavs.
The rockets beat the lakers in the 86 playoffs on the backs of athletic wings to the way to the finals before losing to the Celtics in 6 games. The following year "injuries" and suspensions started falling out of the sky like a plague, focusing on those athletic wings. The rockets proceeded to suck for a few years until the entire roster was revamped around 92/93.
The Mavs pushed the lakers to seven games in the 88 playoffs, with a certain player named ROY tarpley absolutely bullying the aging lakers frontline. The next year, tarpley was handed a suspension and the Mavs proceeded to suck for decades until dirk, Finley and Nash, with a little bit of revival with the Jason Kidd, jimmy Jackson and Jamal mashburn lineup before Toni Braxton put a stop to that.
Coincidence? Maybe. But no other team suffered as much with the exception of the Celtics (with Len bias) and Chris Washburn, but those were rookies and made boneheaded choices.
Sure, the players deserved to be suspended, but then the entire league was running on coke, and the ONLY teams that were affected the most were both legit threats to the lakers-Celtics money tree? Sounds like too much of a coincidence to me.
History repeated itself, with Richard Dumas being kicked out of the league when the suns threatened the Bulls. People don't remember how close those Suns/bulls games were in the finals, and Dumas was a legit threat because he can reasonably matchup with Pippen or Jordan, taking one of the two threats by himself without having the entire Suns collapse.
But Jordan one upped the league and bought himself a two year hiatus.
That said, the league probably won't reach these heights with Mavs vs Pistons finals or rockets vs bucks.
Yup, you are both. Don't forget chicken too.
Links? Who is DK, btw?
Stern will go down as one of the biggest villains of all-time, tbh. And Silver pulls a lot of the same sh**, tbh. Rigged lotteries, pay for play refs, etc.
dad killer tbh
Oh yea. Well, if there's anything to the idea that Len Bias was killed by factions, I'd like to know. That basically swung the pendulum. Even in 91, I felt the C's were better than the Bulls when healthy. And I could totally see Stern blocking Sabonis to help the Lakers; but I've not read anything on it.
Gonna be a big shot. Gonna play point guard.
Slabbed & tagged.
No more big shot.
Do you have a point, or am I supposed to just be impressed by your prose stylings?
Yep,,,no more big shot.
