Cheattle loses a draft pick for workout violations

RENTON, Wash. -- Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he's disappointed the league has punished the Seattle Seahawks for violating the "on-field physical contact" rule during a June 6 organized team activity.

As part of the punishment, the Seahawks will forfeit their 2017 fifth-round pick. The team was fined $400,000, and Carroll was fined $200,000. The Seahawks also forfeit their first week of OTAs, covering three days, in 2017. Seahawks players will be paid for the canceled sessions.

Monday's discipline is the third time Carroll and the Seahawks have been penalized for breaking the no-contact rules. In 2014, the Seahawks were fined $300,000 and lost practice time the next year for violating the rule during a mandatory minicamp. In 2012, Carroll and the Seahawks were fined an undisclosed amount and forfeited two OTAs the next season for violating the rule.

Jim Kelly had 4 shots at it and couldn't win the big one. Fran Tarkenton had three shots at it and couldn't win the biggie.
