Thanks for the Grades! You could've given DLee an A for sure. He played great, hustled every play and was a spark -along with Dedmon- off the bench.

I volunteer to compile and inform the Game Grades every 10 games. I'm going to assign a numerical value to the Grades so that it can be displayed in a simpler way.
However you want to do it, dude. It's your baby. Anything you give would be appreciated.

Many thanks for the effort. I have to agree with most of your grades. Like Chinook, I liked Simmons' game a little better - say a "C". Maybe I was just relieved that he didn't completely return to his old ways. Otherwise I like the grades. But on my computer, the yellow and green colors are very hard to read. Another color, perhaps? or just use a single color for all grades and let the grades speak for themselves, without any additional color contrast.

That's funneling. You don't play defense one-on-one in the NBA often. What you want to do is make it as easy on your bigs as possible to contest shots. Green and Kawhi were experts at this when Tim was there. The reason why you didn't see Kawhi funneling his man nowadays is because guys have learned to stop dribbling anywhere near him.
There's a difference between funneling and Kyle's man blowing past him, someone rotating, and giving up an easy close range shot.

The starters really need Greene, badly missing a 3pt outlet. I like Anderson's defense and general role but the starters need more shooting.
Agree about Green. But there is a domino effect coming. When Green returns and Kyle has go move, does he go back to the second unit and muck up a unit that has thus far been very good? If so , who does he supplant? I like Kyle, but I also like how the second unit as currently cons uted is playing...

    Yes,

But when you're talking about a guy "blowing past him" at the baseline and getting caught under the rim by Pau, that's not a bad thing.

    Solid post! Thanks

I'm excited to see Lee so active on D, same with Dedmon. You've gotta give a lot of credit to Pop and his staff, he always seems to bring the D out of players. We were nicely surprised with the emergence of LMA's last year as well.

I had a feeling Dedmon was set-up for a nice game

I predict a good game from Dedmon

I don't think he mucks up the second unit. His skill set fits there.

I was impressed with Simmons game. I was afraid that after the GS game he had he'd go hero balling out of control. Instead he played a very controlled, intelligent game.
Pop had him playing the point more this game. He did much better than the preseason. Had 2 ast and 2 TO instead of the 1 ast 5 TO when Pop first utilized him like this.

That one TO wasn't really on him. He drove past two guys and Lee should had cut to the basket from the baseline once he saw his man turn his back to him and rushed Simmons. Simmons had no outlet and fumbled the ball out of bounds. I felt that TO was more on Lee than Simmons for not reacting to the play. The other bad play he had was when he again drove pass two guys and got stop in the middle of the paint. He did get the pass out to LMA I believe who had to force a terrible shot. But KA was standing on the baseline wide open and Simmons should have hit him in stride for the baseline 3.

Its good for him to get these kinds of reps. You can tell Pop really is pushing him to be Manu's replacement next year. Hopefully he comes close to the challenge. But a much better controlled performance by him running the point. The main thing he kept calm and didn't let those two TO get to him.

Who do you bump? They have been playing very well. I hate to see Pop mess with it, tbh.

Thank you for the write up. I enjoyed reading it.

Pretty much agreed with everything. I was happy to see Lee do well and same with Dedmond. Now I would like to see Pau Gasol contribute a little more. Hopefully he gets more comfortable with the system these next few weeks.

Pau still finding his place in the team
This, Pau is definitely going to come along. I love his mindset on the team so far, his retaliatory 3 pointer was an answer to Cousins, which baited him into shooting more long-range shots. When Kawhi, Dedmon had a big defensive play, he would be the first jumping off the bench yelling and cheering. Love it.

I will put my hand up a few times this year. I do shift work so my roster is all over the place. The grades were late because the wife came home from holidays and summons me to do some house cleaning whilst I was writing up my grades. Happy wife, happy life.

How long will Pop continue with Anderson in the starting lineup? It's clear that teams will figure out eventually just to sag off Parker and Anderson to double and make those 2 beat them on offense.

We all know Parker isn't going anywhere... so how long will Anderson stay in? The starting lineup offense is just doing enough to buy time for the bench (and better lineups) to step in so I wonder if the Spurs can keep getting away with this. Anderson is probably a better choice on defense than Forbes but what's the point of having Forbes if he won't even be used during a SG's injury? Feels like the Spurs are just trying to get their worst lineup over with early every time they start Parker and Anderson. But there are other options like giving Forbes a start.

TBH, the slow starts are more to do with Gasol and Parker than Anderson. There have been plenty of teams in the pass that started a defensive minded player. Heck, remember we started Bogans?

Great review. I appreciate the time going into this. You have elevated the standard for this reviews tbdog. I am dreading doing mine now cause this is so well done, I appreciate the notes per quarter, etc.
    Again, very nice.

It's not a compe ion. Do what you can. The only standard is game grades. The notes was just to help me. They were completely unedited, and just copied them in.
