As of 3 p.m. today, LSU's 24/7 site says LSU DC Dave Aranda intends on staying in Baton Rouge and is working on a new deal.

However, nothing has been signed and many believe Herman will go after him hard for the same position at Texas.

For those that don't know, Herman and Aranda were college roommates at Cal Lutheran in the 90s.
Well the plus side of that is that Herman likely hadn't had his chance to give his pitch hopefully he can lock him down. Realistically though if we miss on his DC at Houston and Aranda where do we go from there?

Three years ago, I said that with the hiring of Charlie Strong that the most important hire would be who his OC would be. I flipped out in a very bad way when we brought on Watson, because I knew he sucked.

Today I say this. Now that we have Tom Herman, the most important hire we make is the new DC. whoever it is has to be a home run hire. Herman doesn't know defense well enough to make a hire and then take over that side of the ball if he fails. Herman has to get it right.

Now, I want to know why everyone thinks we aren't getting the DC from Houston? U of H just Hired a search firm to help them find a new coach, I'm pretty sure that means the DC isn't going to be given the job. If that is the case, why can't we still hire him?

So you have confidence in the D.C. Herman had in Houston? Seems like D was not one of Houston's strengths.

Their D was good but not as good as the year before because they lost alot of talent on that side of the ball. They played alot of new corners.

Keep in mind this is pure rumor right now, but there's talk on OrangeBloods that QB Jarrett Stidham contacted UT yesterday about transferring in.

I heard he was going to interim the bowl game so someone suggested it meant he would likely be offered the job or was off the board to follow Herman. Not sure where Houston's defense ranked this season but they looked good in the few times I seen them. I mean they sacked Lamar Jackson 11 times he would run circles around Texas' defense. Even when Ed Oliver their best defensive player went down they were still getting tons of pressure. Not sure how good the DC is but it was a great scheme and good game planning, something Strong and Bedford were terrible at. The Kansas QB was a freshman I believe with only a few starts and we couldn't get to him quite as well so he seems to be an upgrade.

Good call???!!! Houston's overall defense is ranked 14th best in the country through 12 games. LSU is 12th for some reference and Texas....a whopping 96th. I would say the current DC is a major upgrade.

    K

Their D looked pitiful against Memphis. And yep, their secondary got torched. They gave up almost 600 yards total. Take away Memphis penalties and it was really bad.

Well that's why you don't watch them once I guess. So where do they end up after the recent disaster?

Injuries, and players distracted by Herman leaving.

    Quick research:

    Lamar
    Cinn.
    Texas St.
    UConn
    Tulsa
    UFC
    Tulane

we don't play the powerhouses above

    Oklahoma
    Louisville
    (very good D)

Navy - Holy !! Ramming speed!
    SMU
    Memphis

    (Houston, we have a problem)

So I guess ranking is important, but we play Big 12 offenses.

Now I only watched one game so...

Memphis QB could have come to Texas if Strong would put out more effort. He seemed not to want a transfer QB.

LSU plans to give Aranda a nice raise and an asst. HC position.

I think if Texas can match that, maybe even give him a little bit more, we could steal him.....no state tax and his history with Herman.....Aranda could be ours.

If we get Aranda, next will be to get a stud ST coach. I am sick of ty FG kicking....that is one of the staples of Texas, good FG kickers. I miss the blocked punts and TDs on PR and KR. Our ST has gone to crap over the last 4 years and we need to get it back.

With Herman recruiting, our offense being unpredictable and able to pass and run, our D being able to not only get stops, but also force turnovers, and our ST being studly like during the majority of the Mack Brown era.....we will be competing for National Championships very soon. I honestly believe that.

Louisville, OU and Tulsa in top 6 of overall offenses. Houston won against all 3. Navy and Memphis have offenses in the 30-ish range and lost to them so just a little reference. Take it however you will. I would still prefer Aranda because LSU defense is crazy good but I think his DC at Houston would do good. No way this team under Strong comes close to containing likely Heisman winner Lamar Jackson like they were able to.

Inside Texas saying a name to keep an eye on for Herman's staff is Cedar Hill's coach, Joey McGuire.

At this point, they're not expecting Traylor to be retained.
