Dumb . Vietnam started with Kennedy and LBJ.
Johnson was on the brink of a peace treaty with the Viet Cong at the Paris peace talks, dumb kicker.

Nixon and Repug dirty tricksters secretly, treasonously offered the VC a "better deal" from Nixon if they cancelled the talks, which they did, in October 1968, aka The Original October Surprise.

If the Peace Talks would have succeeded, it would have been huge boost for Humphrey, keeping criminal, disgraceful Tricky out of the WH. Nixon was elected, with war criminal "peace is at hand" Kissinger tagging along.

Repugs scuttling the Paris Peace Talks EXTENDED the VN war another 7 years, with 100Ks MORE of US military dead and maimed.

OUCH! Newsweek exposes Trump as the business fraud he is.

The story goes through the bankruptcies of course, but there are defaults, people ripped off, and lie upon lie upon lie upon lie.

My favorite stuff from the article:

    • Trump lied to Congress.
    • Trump was publicly insulting Native Americans while other real business people were making deals to help manage their casinos.
    • Trump signed a deal with one Native American casino, and they paid him $6 million to go away.
    • Trump punched his second grade teacher
    • Trump lied in his books, then blamed the same woman he blamed for Melania Trump’s plagiarized speech.
    • Trump lied in a filing with a bank where he was trying to get a loan about how much he was worth.
    • Trump lied about how much money he got from his dad.
    • Trump’s dad gave him illegal loans by taking cash to his casino, turning it over at a craps table, loading up a suitcase with $5,000 chips, and leaving.
    • Trump’s earliest deals all lost money and he only did well when his dad guaranteed loans.
    • Trump spent $1 million per plane to turn a shuttle into a luxury trip that no one wanted to take. The planes were only worth $4 million each.

There is just so much more. I want to give a few quotes:

Lost contracts, bankruptcies, defaults, deceptions and indifference to investors—Trump’s business career is a long, long list of such troubles, according to regulatory, corporate and court records, as well as sworn testimony and government investigative reports.

Call it the art of the bad deal, one created by the arrogance and recklessness of a businessman whose main talent is self-promotion.

He is also pretty good at self-deception, and plain old deception. Trump is willing to claim success even when it is not there, according to his own statements.

“I’m just telling you, you wouldn’t say that you're failing,” he said in a 2007 deposition when asked to explain why he would give an upbeat assessment of his business even if it was in trouble.

“If somebody said, ‘How you doing?’ you're going to say you're doing good.”

Perhaps such dissembling is fine in polite tail party conversation, but in the business world it’s called lying.

Trump tells everyone he is a gazillionaire. How does he decide his net worth?

Trump is quick to boast that his purported billions prove his business a en, his net worth is almost unknowable given the loose standards and numerous outright misrepresentations he has made over the years.

In that 2007 deposition, Trump said he based estimates of his net worth at times on “psychology” and “my own feelings.”

But those feelings are often wrong—

in 2004, he presented unaudited financials to Deutsche Bank while seeking a loan, claiming he was worth $3.5 billion.

The bank concluded Trump was, to say the least, puffing; it put his net worth at $788 million, records show.

(Trump personally guaranteed $40 million of the loan to his company, so Deutsche coughed up the money. He later defaulted on that commitment.)

    And the money quote:

Trump’s many misrepresentations of his successes and his failures matter—a lot.

As a man who has never held so much as a city council seat, there is little voters can examine to determine if he is competent to hold office.

He has no voting record and presents few details about specific policies.

Instead, he sells himself as qualified to run the country because he is a businessman who knows how to get things done, and his financial dealings are the only part of his background available to assess his competence to lead the country.

And while Trump has had a few successes in business, most of his ventures have been disasters.

It’s a long article, but it

puts the lie to Trump’s lie that he is a successful businessman. He’s just a guy who inherited money.

Trump voters say they will be 'surprised' and 'pissed' if Trump defunds Planned Parenthood

Huffington Post is reporting on a series of focus groups commissioned by Planned Parenthood and conducted by an independent research group, using Trump voters in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Wisconsin.

“The guy I voted for, I’d be disappointed if he signed it,” said one middle-aged man in Milwaukee. “He’s making sure the Congress is on his side, but he doesn’t care about all us people who voted for him.”

    [...]
The Trump supporters ― who ranged in age, race and gender ― said they voted for the real estate mogul because they were looking for something other than a career politician; someone who would fix the economy and change the way Washington works.

“If he does sign this, it’s gonna cause more disruption in our society,” said a white male Trump supporter in a Las Vegas focus group. “If he doesn’t sign it, it’s gonna make a big statement that he’s fighting for the little ones.”
I know that calling people stupid isn’t productive at all.

But anyone paying a decent amount of attention to just Donald Trump should have realized that he doesn’t care about anybody, least of all you ing plebeians! He cares about Donald Trump only.

Trump on fomenting religious wars: 'Who said that?' Reporter: 'You did'

Well, this doesn’t bode well for the nation’s future. Here’s Trump briefly answering press questions on Wednesday. Specifically, where the reporter asks about his statement on the attack in Berlin:

Reporter: "Your comments about the truck attack in Berlin being against Christians, do think that this might….”

    Trump: "Say it again?

Reporter: "The attack in Berlin being an attack on Christians….”

Trump: "Who said that? When was that said?”

Reporter: I believe you said it in a press release….”

    Yep, he did.

In a statement released just yesterday

he said “ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad.”

    So there you go.

I don’t know what’s worse: the possibility that he truly doesn’t remember day-to-day whether he made an inflammatory and dangerous statement or that he doesn’t know his team is making them for him.

Trump's doctor suggests Reagan proved it's OK to cover up a President's pre-senile dementia

When asked about Trump’s health, Trump’s doctor said to STAT News:

“there’s nothing to share” on a regular basis about a president’s health.

“Ronald Reagan had pre-senile dementia. I mean, seriously, did they share that one with you, or did Nancy just cover it up?”

“If something happens to him, then it happens to him,” Bornstein said.

“It’s like all the rest of us, no? That’s why we have a vice president and a speaker of the House and a whole line of people. They can just keep dying.”

Very reassuring. At least we can rest assured that,

since Reagan’s dementia was covered up, it won’t be “unpresidented” if Trump’s dementia is covered up as well.

I just hope it doesn’t cause Trump to launch nuclear bombs at China when he gets angry at a mistranslation that suggests Chinese leaders made fun of the size of his hands.

‘Never seen such a desperate need to be liked’: Internet mocks Trump’s insecure tweet on A-list celebs

resident elect, reality TV star, self-described pussy grabber — is having a difficult time landing A-list performances for his inauguration day.

One source told the Wrap Trump’s transition team is “willing to pay anything” for a Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars appearance.

Another said they offered celebrity bookers ambassadorships in exchange for handing over a vocal sensation to serenade the president-elect on his big day.

And yet, so far the only celebrity Trump’s officially landed is 16-year-old “America’s Got Talent” runner-up Jackie Evancho, who will be performing the National Anthem on Jan. 20.

In fact, so many performers have publicly declined an Inauguration invite that mic.com is keeping a running list of all the artists who are saying no thanks to the once-in-a-lifetime chance of honoring President Donald Trump.

Despite these reports, Trump insists his inauguration is going to be the party of the century, going so far as to insist he doesn’t even want cool people to come. Thursday, he pushed back against claims that celebs are refusing to play him to power:

    Follow

    Donald J. Trump
    @realDonaldTrump

The so-called "A" list celebrities are all wanting tixs to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING. I want the PEOPLE!

Trump won votes promising to protect veterans, but major veterans groups are rattled by his plans

    Do
nald Trump’s flair for connecting with veterans won him an overwhelming share of their votes, but the durability of the alliance is already being tested as Trump’s search for a Veterans Affairs secretary veers in a direction that has alarmed some of America’s most influential retired soldiers.

Under pressure from conservative activists, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and organizations funded by the Koch Brothers, Trump is contemplating choosing an agency chief who would upend the entire veterans healthcare system. That would come over the protest of the country’s major veterans groups.

An appointment like that could prove an early test of whether the voters who backed Trump in November will continue to stick with him when his agenda smacks into interest groups that have been crusading on their behalf for decades.

    Where is this going?

    We've already seen it:

privatization by giving vets silly little vouchers to visit for-profit health care, while defunding VA.

And why not cut vet disability payments? The billionaires NEED that disability money.

    Build He Won’t

we’re dealing with a president-elect whose business career is one long trail of broken promises and outright scams — someone who just paid $25 million to settle fraud charges against his “university.”

Given that history, you always have to ask whether he’s offering something real or simply engaged in another con job. In fact, you should probably

assume that it’s a scam until proven otherwise.

And we already know enough about his infrastructure plan to suggest, strongly, that it’s basically fraudulent, that it

would enrich a few well-connected people at taxpayers’ expense while doing very little to cure our investment shortfall.

calling for huge tax credits: billions of dollars in checks written to private companies that invest in approved projects, which they would end up owning. For example, imagine a private consortium building a toll road for $1 billion.

Under the Trump plan, the consortium might borrow $800 million while putting up $200 million in equity — but it would get a tax credit of 82 percent of that sum, so that its actual outlays would only be $36 million. And any future revenue from tolls would go to the people who put up that $36 million.

how is this scheme supposed to deal with infrastructure needs that can’t be turned into profit centers?

Our top priorities should include things like repairing levees and cleaning up hazardous waste; where’s the revenue stream?

what reason do we have to believe that this scheme will generate new investment, as opposed to repackaging things that would have happened anyway?

Cronyism and self-dealing are going to be the central theme of this administration — in fact, Mr. Trump is already meeting with foreigners to promote his business interests.

China Tells Trump's Fools, Want A Trade War? We'll Start By Targeting Republican States.

Yesterday, Trump named Peter Navarro as a trade adviser. Navarro has been a big critic of trade with China. Well China is taking no time to respond:

Trump team’s threats to name China a currency manipulator and to erect high tariffs against it—drew fire in China outside official circles.

“China is now preparing some weapons,” Ms. Cheng said. China’s Commerce Ministry “is quite busy now, I’m sure.”
    ...
“Their objective will be to parry what Trump does with targeted reprisals in areas of U.S. vulnerability.”

Among China’s likely targets, say trade experts: Boeing Co. aircraft and U.S. farm exports from Midwestern Republican states.
Canceled Boeing orders would hurt U.S. shareholders, labor unions and the U.S. trade deficit, prompting pressure on the new administration, said Derek Scissors, an economist at data provider China Beige Book International. As of last month, China is awaiting delivery of 292 Boeing jets.

Blocking soybean or other U.S. food exports would prompt action by Republican Senators whose cons uents lack a large manufacturing base,

    ...
Beijing also could look to pressure U.S. multinationals such as General Motors Co., which relies on China as its largest sales market. “Some companies that already invest in China, we’re likely to push them to lobby Trump,” Ms. Cheng said.

To retaliate, China also could make use of informal trade barriers—making health claims against American food products, for example—that are highly technical and difficult to counter in the WTO but hurt U.S. exporters, some experts said.

“Even if U.S. companies move back to the U.S., it doesn’t mean manufacturing jobs will come back since U.S. companies will use automation to save money,” said Ms. Cheng

The Chinese are not going to mess around with Trump’s threats, they’re going to respond, and they’re going to respond where it hurts.

Will Loose Lips Don The Con Trash ‘Brand America’?

some of Trump’s early decisions and appointments threatens to damage the reputation of the United States (or “Brand America”) internationally.

could mean “the end of U.S. soft power” by exposing “tendencies the world never used to associate with the U.S.: xenophobia, misogyny, pessimism and selfishness.”

Brand America is especially likely to take a battering if Trump continues with the undiplomatic pronouncements he regularly espoused during the campaign. Examples here include

his assertions in April that Washington should withdraw troops from South Korea and Japan and

allow those countries, and potentially others, including Saudi Arabia, to develop nuclear arsenals.

fly in the face of U.S. foreign policy over decades that has largely been focused on preventing nuclear weapon proliferation. So significant was the level of diplomatic concern in Japan, for instance, that both the prime minister and foreign minister responded forcefully, with the latter asserting that “it is impossible that Japan will arm itself with nuclear weapons.”

Other instances of diplomatic angst he caused in the run-up to his election include

    his plans for
building a border wall with Mexico (which he claims the Mexican government will pay for); and

a proposed ban on all Muslims entering the United States (a commitment he has since backtracked from).

there is likely to be a e again in anti-U.S. sentiment in at least some key countries, for the first time since George W. Bush’s presidency.

This could undercut much of the work that President Barack Obama has undertaken to turn around the climate of perception about the country in the last eight years.

the “Obama effect” was estimated to have raised the value of “Brand America” by $2.1 trillion in the first year of his presidency alone.

Russia was the only state where Trump bested Clinton.

Taken overall, Trump has potential to be one of the least popular U.S. president ever overseas. While Brand America has rebounded under Obama, there are now significant downside risks for the U.S. reputation overseas should the new president-elect return to the sometimes wild rhetoric and controversial policy positions of his campaign.

Donald Trump wants a record crowd for his inauguration — but he may be disappointed

"Let's set the all time record!" tweeted the president-elect.

But planners who are gearing up for the big day predict that Trump will fall way short of his goal: They're estimating a crowd of roughly 800,000, fewer than half the 1.8 million people who attended President Barack Obama's first inauguration in 2009.

"It's not even close to a record," said Jim Bendat, a California expert on presidential inauguration history, who wrote a book on the subject.

After a bitter election, Trump is headed for the White House with only 48 percent of Americans approving of the way he's handled his presidential transition.

Trump has had a tough time lining up A-list talent to perform, most recently when Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli backed out this week after his fans complained.
