Kawhi is clearly the best all around player in the NBA.

Kawhi has a double double, 34 points and 10 rebounds... how can anyone NOT compare him to 2003 TD at this point?
TDs bbiq was much higher than Kawhi. The impact is similar, so in that respect they're comparable. But TD was such a polished player coming into the league. His biggest thing was how to handle double teams, and he picked up on it, and mastered it.

Kawhi still has to read the game a bit better and understand game situations a little better. I have no doubt he'll improve tho

    Start Murray. Waive Enrique.
Some of us have been calling for Pop to turn the keys over to Murray this season and just coach him up as he did Tony. The ride is likely to be bumpy, but your PG of the future gets the experience. Perhaps even Pop is seeing the light; he sat Tony's butt firmly on the pines for most of the second half last night and tonight. Of course, there are those on ST who we xpect Tony to be the starter next season!

He competes but that charge doesn't make up for how bad he was.
What better options do we have at PG tbh?

Unless Pau and Manu retire and we manage to land Westbrook or something next year, but this year?

He's still a 3PT threat that draws a defender. A lot more than you can say about Enrique's worthless ass.

Too late in the season for that kind of change. TP had a good stretch earlier this year. We just need to hope he can play well come playoff time. Pop will likely rest him a bit, so Murray will play. But he won't get significant playoff time

Damn. Spurs had 10 steals and 8 blocks. It helps when Kawhi has 6 steals by himself.

It's probably a different path that was feasible once he started to play well in January.
Pop chose to bench him though, after he appeared in that rookie power rankings and now it's uphill for him bc there aren't many games and now Pop has the urgency to overplay guys to try to catch GSW...
He may end up winning a battle and losing the war...

That's why I give extra points to guys like Kawhi, even Kobe as much as we hate him. They were raw athletes with limited NBA skills coming into the league and their work ethic was tops in the league and they transformed themselves from raw mid-round pick athlete to best in the NBA.

With Kawhi, we didn't have to get uber-lucky and win the lottery to get him; it was all about getting to know him as a person at the combine and knowing what his combination of talent, work ethic/motivation to get better, and love of defense could and ultimately would mean to our franchise. With Duncan, it was merely about getting the ping pong ball; if any other team had drawn first in '97, the Spurs would have been a sub-mediocre franchise through the 2000s once David got too old to carry the team.

Why wasn't he out there to end the 4th and all of OT for the second game in a row then? Tired of this regurgitated BS that he's clearly the best option. He ing sucks. Paddy isn't lighting things up but the fact that he's out there speaks volumes about how horrible Enrique has been.

No quit in this team. Winning ugly games build character even if it's not good for my heart.

I was just about to say that Pop didn't put Murray in for a change of pace. He just put him in to give Patty some rest, because he wasn't putting Tony back in. Then this was Pop in the post-game:

Q: Is Tony still fighting through the contusion?
Pop: Yeah, Tony didn't have his legs like he needed, so Patty and Murray for a few minutes there.

He should have given Murray more than 3-4 minutes, the way he played. But noooo.

The difference between losing in the playoffs with an old, washed up PG and a young, raw PG is getting the young guy up and running sooner rather than later. In either case, the Spurs will not win the LOB.

If you envision a lineup of David Robinson, Keith Van Horn, Sean Elliott, Mario Elie/Jaren Jackson, and Avery Johnson... that's a playoff team, but they're not winning any championships tbh.
