Hoops Hype: NBA Mock Draft 2017

29. San Antonio
Biggie overcomes his lack of speed and athleticism with tremendous desire and will to win. He's transformed his body and added a lot of skill. He's got a massive 7-foot-3.5 wingspan and has developed his range out to the 3 point line. While he still has work left to ensure he gets drafted in the first round, he gets high marks for his character and work ethic. His ability to rebound and score on superior athletes defies logic and gives his NBA potential intrigue.
Dude knows how to play and has a great motor. I wonder about his quickness, but he already has a decent outside shot.

Seems lumbaring and slow, but intrigued by this idea that he has a good motor. Zach Randolph lite?
Pop: sign me up!
Off the bench, he could be a scoring machine playing the role Gasol has recently.

Pass. Swanigan would have been very good in the '90's. But in the modern NBA that places much more emphasis on speed/quickness than bulk/strength, I don't like Swanigan at all.
Don't like either. I agree with SASaints' take. I like Jordan Bell a lot more than Swainigan.
I don't really want him either. But a great rebounder who can shoot well from three isn't exactly a dinosaur. I'd take any of the next three players in DX's mock over him, though.

An unusually large amount of mock drafts seem to have us taking this kid.
Pass. His defense is utter trash and I don't think he will be able to compete with NBA level athletes.

29. San Antonio Spurs — Caleb Swanigan, PF, Purdue
Swanigan was the best big in college basketball as a sop re. He led the country in double-doubles and even developed a reliable three-point shot. His biggest issue will be defending in space.

Reminds me of ZBo. Strong and skilled offensively, but a liability defensively. He's only 20 so he has room for growth, but it was nice to see such an improvement from his freshman year.
Hate him.

29 San Antonio Spurs: Caleb Swanigan, PF, Purdue, 6-9, Soph.
The Spurs have a veteran frontcourt and a couple of potential free agents, so the team could use some youth at forward. Swanigan was a double-double machine this past season and should develop into a valuable role player at the next level.
Want guys with versatile games that play hard and rebound. I get that he'll never be a defensive stalwart, but there's definitely potential to improve.
In fact, what I love most about him is that he completely changed his game and his body from one season to the next; adding a reliable outside shot and trimming the fat. Guys that want to improve year over year are guys that I want on my team.
