    More serious question re: Barry...

Anyone think that his greatness won't be appreciated until way after he retires? I think (and it's just my opinion) that he's an aloof, egocentric asshole with no respect for fans, and juicing on top of things. Most of baseball and it's die-hard fans think the same way.

But fifteen years from now, he may be depicted as the best there ever was. Will time heal all wounds, or will he be talked about like Pete Rose is, "He was great, but..." kinda thing?

very well deserved, an ungodly .609 on base percentage w/ a .812 slugging. in only 373 at bats cuz he walked 232 times he still managed 45 bombs and 101 rbi's, oh ya and a .362 average. if that's not the mvp, nothing is.
maybe i'll start allegedly taking steroids if it gives me the never before seen plate discipline and patience that he has.

    ATL,

I agree that we may never see another season like this again. But will it ever get to the point where everyone can just say "wow" without talking about Barry the ungrateful person or Barry the alleged steroid user?

it will get to the point where people won't talk about him being a jerk. i think he will open up a lot after he retires, he's said that. but as far as the steroids go, if real concrete proof that he took them comes out then there will always be that asterisk, however if that doesn't happen, at least i won't be saying he was great but...

I would love to be able to be marveled by his accomplishments, but they are so less meaningful because they are drug-aided.

Ruth did all that despite drug use.

, I could stand over the plate if I had a suit of armour on like he wears..

Could you see and real man wearing that pussy in the 20's-70's, even in the 80's.

He is what is the personification of what is bad about sports. nuff said.

im sure that elbow guard really makes him a better hitter, and makes him less scared of taking one in the ear, more likely he was tired of getting hit in the funny bone. many players wear elbow guards and other protective gear. he's not diving over the plate like biggio and jason kendall who wear that cuz they hope to get hit in the elbow guard on an inside pitch so they get on base for doing nothing.

dont forget being an uppity pirck, and a horrible teammate is ok as well.

Way to go baseball, give it to a player on a team who didnt mak the playoffs.

But, in 03, Bonds won over Pujols because, "His team made the playoffs"

Why bother voting, just give the cheating prick the award every year and still suck his after he whines "Its tough to walk"

Correction: He won it in 2003 because he was the better player. Just like this year.

B Bonds is the most dominant player in the game, hands down. From slugging percentage , to the most walks in history, to his Batting average. What's up Barry haters?!

Perhaps if it were the MVPWANAA* award, his personality would matter.

He's a ing cheater on steroids and it's going to come out. They'll offer him the same "deal" as Giambi: immunity from BALCO charges, but if you lie to the grand jury, you're going to jail for perjury.

There's a reason he's walking that much, and it isn't "plate discipline". He's not seeing pitches anywhere near the strike zone because it's better to put him on first than to take a chance of a steroid pop fly. If I were a pitcher, and I was told to walk him, I'd just hit him instead. Plunk him right on the rear. That way, my BB won't go up, and he isn't canonized for being some great eye at the plate. I'd love to see Barry HBP 200+ times in a season.

HBP counts as a walk for pitcher and batter.
