Should've just developed the young talent instead of throwing around loyalty contracts. Maybe we would've been seeded low enough to get a decent pick for once....Ah, it. RC would just draft some Radoslav ovic from Kosovo and stashed him for 5 years anyway...
They still are. There is plenty of minutes for Murray and Bertans.

If we could get galli and chandler or gay in a s&t for lma. Man, our team would look nice. We would play faster. And mills would play to his contract. That's what I think why we snatched mills up. This post up style is not his game. We need to run. Even Murray needs to run. The only issue here is Gasol.

Mills is a 28min player. LMA is a 30min player. Manu is unknown but is a 18min player. There are minutes for them here.

Would've been nicer to see them develop without the has-beens taking their minutes since we're not winning anything anyway.

2nd round exit without Kawhi hurting himself carrying all the dead weight en-route to his first MVP is the best case scenario at this point.

Only because of the dubs. We will be top 4 in the west baring injuries. It's not just about winning les or tanking.

Maybe last year. But now we've been passed by in terms of talent by even more teams than the Dubs. And, yeah, if we're not playing for les now, might as well have not re-upped the has-beens and developed our young talent even more while likely getting a decent pick at the end of it.

Damn, would have been loving this off-season if they hadn't signed Mills to 4 years, tbh..standing pat would have been nice, wait until all the dead weight comes off the books, enjoy watching Kawhi win MVP, Manu's farewell tour and not having to watch Parker until 2018..

The Mills signing killed my excitement, though..
Patty has a deal that is tradeable......... Don't be short sighted.

Hope they can re-sign Simmons, hope Parker can't return until February, give Murray 25 MPG, big minutes to Bertrans, get Kawhi the MVP, give Manu a farewell tour and lose in round 2/3..

Patty's deal is fine in a vacuum..it's disappointing when you consider that Parker isn't going anywhere and they already have Murray, though..

40 year old Manu, Gasoft, Adumb Hanger, and Hakeem Milutinov.

It's not going to happen, but they should still get involved with Millsap. If Suns, Nuggets or Kings, end up going to 3/$90M, just give him a partially guaranteed 4th, to make him whole or close to it, but lower average annual value. Then do a 3 way sign and trade, where they ship Aldridge to whoever is willing to take him for a 2nd. Hawks can either get that or a trade exception for their troubles.

The way Spurs operate, they're probably not going to have meaningful flexibility in '18 anyway and had Aldridge not wanted out, probably would have given him him 3-4 years at something like $25M. Might as well do it for a better player and cultural fit.

Even though he doesn't time well with Murray, that and the possibility (we hope) of latter's becoming a star, is the only path I see to something of a big 3 anytime soon.

What's going on right now is pretty close to the scenario I laid out in my TT salary thread: (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266699)

Differences so far is that the tax line is $3 Million lower than projected and that Pau has opted out. Also replace Lee and Dedmon with the LLE and MLE, respectively.

This is what the projected salary chart looks like:

    Name 2017-18
    LaMarcus Aldridge $21,461,010
    Kawhi Leonard $18,868,625
    Tony Parker $15,453,126
    Patty Mills $11,160,714
    Danny Green $10,000,000
    Kyle Anderson $2,151,704
    Tim Duncan (stretched) $1,881,250
    Milutinov $1,832,075
    Derrick White $1,697,225
    Jonathan Simmons (QO) $1,676,735
    Dejounte Murray $1,312,611
    Davis Bertans $1,312,611
    Bryn Forbes $1,312,611
    Livio Jean-Charles (waived) $1,035,200
    Jaron Blossomegame $815,615
    MLE $8,406,000
    LLE $3,290,000
    Calculated Total $103,667,112
    Luxury Tax: $119,266,000
    Room Under Tax: $15,598,888

The upshot of this is that the Spurs have $17.3 Million to split between Simmons and Gasol in order to stay under the tax. Assuming Simmons gets a first-year salary of the MLE, Gasol would have to sign a deal with an FYS of $8.87. That puts them in the $18M/2 or $28M/3 range. No using one or both of the exceptions would give the team much-needed breathing room -- especially long-term. But with there still being at least one hole in the rotation, they probably should look for help. They could also continue to stash Milutinov, but I don't think that would make any sense. You don't want to risk him having a good year and pulling a Bogdanovic.

Sac adding two Bogdanovics will be more interesting than anything the Spurs are likely to do this offseason.

If they're up against the tax, they could always either not use the LLE or save $1.3 million by dumping Forbes.

People on here keep thinking about the roster as currently cons uted and completely ignore the fact that they'll add at least one useful rotation piece with the MLE.

Also, it could be Hanga on the LLE for all we know.
