So, Jabari responded to me a while ago. Basically, no trade of Murray or anything implied. It was really simply a matter of SL being a 2 weeks long and not wanting to wear out a crucial piece 3 days into it. Many games left. So no known injuries or trades - just minutes management for what is a long Summer League.

I think that is the issue for me. I can't imagine Gay turning down SAC money for less and being sold on coming to SA to come off bench in what is probably his last chance at a possibly big FA deal in 18.

Ersan would be off the bench and would he accept LLE money for that role?

Funny this gets announced an hour after Jabari says that the Spurs aren't going to do anything this offseason. I think Jabari should consider that someone is screwing with him. Now they'll probably sign Simmons and trade Green.

I would be totally fine with Bertans starting, especially with Mills too. Im just concerned Gay would not be ok with it

That's the concern for me is defensively.

TP was poor, but Murray is really bad on defense. Pau wasn't great, but he protected the rim and then when SA had Dedmon in over Pau, defense was stout. Now you replace TP with maybe one of the few people maybe worse than him and Dedmon with Gay/Bertans?

Lot's of pressure on Danny/Kawhi/LMA for defense.

The Gay signing did give me the impression he took what was meant to be Simmons deal. .. I don't understand squat about the cap so I can be very wrong but it was the first thing that came to mind. Glad for J.Simms if he's getting paid elsewhere. I don't think I like Gay coming back from a torn Achilles over Simms but waiting to see what happens basically. Simmons still shopping himself around and Spurs got a guy they wanted for a similar offer than they had made on Simmons and this guy could have been gone by the time the dust settles on Simmons.

The fact that Gay signed for the MLE doesn't impact the Spurs' ability to sign Simmons to the MLE. Only if they're hard capped.

They don't play the same position, not sure why you would think that. It's far more likely Gay takes the place of Dedmon, maybe even him + Lee, and they still re-sign Simmons.

We shall see. They may play different positions but might have had a similar role as bench scorer? I doubt Gay is going to be just a floor spacer. I mean I'll wait to see what happens but it was the first thing to come to mind.

Does SA even want Hanga now? Does Pau get more than one-year? Is 2018 cap space really viable with Mills now on the books, likely Simmons, likely Pau, Rudy Gay?

Assuming Pau is back, that leaves only LMA/Pau as legit bigs. Does Lee come back? Muli come over?

What about Manu? Already a ton of guards and if you add in Hanga does that leave room for Manu or do they cut Forbes for Manu?

Still lots of questions.
