I just want to know who the were the Spurs going to sign - especially at this price - that possibly gives them a better chance than Rudy Gay? might blow up and he might be a terrible player but I see NOTHING out there that comes close to this at the price other than George Hill. But George Hill locks up more money and is also injury prone.

Chris Paul at a discount? Sure. Chris Paul at the supermax? No ing way.

There was nothing else out there right now!

Derrick Rose is still a free agent, he fills a need for the Spurs. Sure the Spurs lost out on CP3 but I hope they make a play at signing Derrick.

I wouldn't mind Rose at all. Still has some solid minutes left in him. I realize it's reported that Spurs had interest in him but will Pop really overlook the character issues?

Rudy Gay and LMA are players cut from the same cloth.
    You may be right.

On the other hand, I don't see LMA opting out of a $14 million deal to sign for $8.5 million because, apparently, he's sick of losing.

Gay at least seems to be willing to attempt to change. It will be interesting to watch.

No. Unless we move a guard along with LMA for a decent piece. We don't need to keep adding guards.

Here's how I see the addition pro and con.

    1. Not a great 3 pt shooter in a league that is evolving into perimeter players who can shoot the 3. Average?
    2. 32 years old. The legs start to go and the jumper is the first sign followed by slow defense. Or is it the other way round? .
    3. Achilles tendon injury--WTF. Our contract better have an 'out' if he can't physically perform. Adding 3 to 2 doesn't bode well.
    4. Patfo always hopes that some of the veteran wisdom/ability is still there.
    5. If we keep a lot of younger players, you have to have a veteran or two on court to steady some of our youngsters
    6. Gotta give Pop the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. He likes to bring in vets in hopes they still can play. List is long with few outstanding winners.

Guess what? We'll just have to wait and see what develops. This isn't a slam dunk.

    Spurs sign Rudy Gay.

Translation: We haven't done jack so let's just do something.

Over 11 seasons Gay only played in 1 Playoff series and lost.

    Translation: WTF

Rudy Gay and LMA are players cut from the same cloth.

    Translation: it.
I fear that you are right. Two very non-Spurs-type signings could signal that PATFO has been seduced by the Dark Side.

The only person worth a move of 2 plus players this off season was Gordon. But, like this "deep draft" this free agency was over hyped.... some will never learn.

Not discounting what you said. I'm sure the Spurs had a similar list. Small point, but he is currently 30 years old. he turns 31 in August.

One could argue that playing for the Spurs actually extends your career so one is younger when coming onboard.

Well there are people who subscribe to shop therapy. That's how they "build up" their self esteem/concept so of course they want the new toy.

It's RC's job to make the team better, Rose is a former regular season MVP, if they sign him it's up to Pop to make it all work. Pop isn't Droses daddy.

No. Unless we move a guard along with LMA for a decent piece. We don't need to keep adding guards.
Rose is a former regular season MVP, he has experience and we need all of that at the moment. Parker is out till January.

Anyone that wants Gay to be the off the bench creator for the team is asking for the inefficient Gay of his entire career. You don't want Gay to iso or run pnr. Gay's plus side for the Spurs is at the pf position. Adding a player that can rebound and push the ball. A player that can run in transition. A player that can guard multiple players. A player that can attack vs closeouts or generally just attack in straight line drives. On the bench you'll get the iso dancer that you've seen his entire career. He has never been good at creating for others in that role.
