Much better than with Bauza, tbh. At least on this game we kept possession of the ball (the game with the most passes made in all of this qualifiers) and didn't suffer on the back. I like the style, I don't like the formation though. Everybody talks about how this formation is so offensive minded but I just don't see it. 3 centre backs and 2 holding midifielders. 5 dudes to defend. That's not offensive, tbh. Argentina needs to go back to having 4 guys on the defensive line (with two attacking cornerbacks) and just one holding midfielder. If not, it's going to be difficult to create chances against teams that park the bus, like Uruguay did today.
You're reading a little too much both into the Defensive having been any good on this match, and Uruguay's finally healthy defensive formation that no team in the world can score against. Brazil's win against Uruguay was a fluke and subs on the Defensive for us. The way Uruguay plays (I don't like it and Uruleaches have been asking for El maestro's head for the last 3 years) is Mourinho on steroids...
I'm not basing my opinion solely on this match. Argentina's formation just isn't balanced enough to attack with any kind of danger. As I already said, this formstion leaves 5 guys to defend and only 5 guys to attack. We play without wings to open up the pitch, we play without cornerbacks to overlap on offense and catch the other team offguard, we play without midfielders that can get to the box and surprise opposing defenses.

The problem for ARG creating offense has been there since the last World Cup, tbh. Missi has to be a decoy, and you have to have somebody else creating... when Di Maria didn't suck, 10 years ago, it all worked. But it doesn't work with this Di Maria, Banega, Biglia, it doesn't work, IMO

Iicardi much like higuain barely got one pass inside the box. The problem with this team is playmaking. Dybala just gets in Messi way, di Maria is only capable of making plays for himself and at this point not very good at it, playing with two 5s when 95% of our opponents park the bus makes no sense. Sampaoli has tried to fix the midfield but it's not enough, he has to make more room and for that you need depth on the wings. If he wants to play two 5s one of them has to be offensive minded like paredes. Di Maria has to go and Messi hs to pass to his wings, a couple of times Acosta was making a run and Messi ignored him.
Don't care about pass possession statistics Argentina barely created any danger. The last 10 minutes were shameful to watch, either they were so impotent they didn't bother to attack or they had arranged the draw, no teeth no urgency in this generation.
What a horrible match to watch.

And there is no defense. ty center back play; age old problem for the US. Tim Howard in ty position on that goal that was the game changer. And on top of that, US stupid enough to play the game in a stadium that gave Costa Rica 25 percent of the fans.
