Of course he takes a few liberties here and there that most coaches can’t afford to take. When you win championships and are a top 5 coach of all time then you created a much longer leash. He still coaches the team up and makes sure they’re prepared.

During most of the Duncan era he had prime Manu and Parker along with PATFO putting together talent around them, they also didn't have a juggernaut like Golden State and two other teams with 2 top 12 players all in the same conference.
