CC, the reasoning you offered up is the same one that retroactively white supremacists use. "Well, you are better off here than over there, so slavery was a good thing."
In essence, you are saying slavery (not per se but given the historical outcome) was a good thing. It's like saying the Holocaust was a good thing for Jews because now many Jewish posterity now live in the best country in the world.
It completely disconnects ppl now from the tragedies & suffering of those who were persecuted, tortured & killed in the past. I'm not thankful for that. It just is what it is.

What at do you do? What charity work? You need something to do? I can hook you up teaching disadvantaged kids. Say yes you wish to help kids learn to read or do simple math. How much time do you have in the summer when they are out of school and waiting for remediation?

Honestly the back breaking labor of the slaves is responsible for a lot if the development of the southern farm lands. Cotton they picked made clothes for whole country cheap plus they developed farm land for food stuffs which fed a lot if the country and cash crops like rice and indigo made Southerners rich. Same with the Chinese and the railroads so these minorities helped America a tremendous amount too as much as benefited from it. slaves even built the white house and us capitol buildings
If they had to pay whites to do all that farming and railroad laying would have set them back decades maybe. Would have been a massive labor shortage and would have been cost prohibitive in many cases
Looking elsewhere in history.. No one would give two s about the Egyptians if they didn't have the slaves to build them the pyramids neither. Their supposed superior culture amounted to them telling a bunch of Jews to build a triangle
