You cannot get a SuperMax anywhere else if you’re Kawhi FYI. The spirit of the SuperMax is that only the team that drafted you (along with other qualifications) can offer that massive deal.
The length or the payout of the shoe deal shouldn’t be substantially better outside of SA. He already has a major shoe deal. There are no doubt better sponsors in other cities but the difference between a super max and max worth of them? A player must have been drafted by the team offering the super max or be traded on their rookie deal to be eligible. Meaning, Kawhi can only sign a super max with SA.
Even if Kawhi went to a larger market I’m not sure his personality fits that archetype. HEB isn’t what makes Kawhi look... special.

Either way, he can make up that money elsewhere and then some.
Not really, no he can’t. Especially factoring in the difference in guaranteed money over 5 years plus no state income tax in TX vs somewhere like LA.
How much salary total would he get in 5 years from another team? I know he can only sign a 4 year deal with another team, but if he were to re-sign a new contract with another team after the 4 years are up, what would be the first year salary of that new contract? I want to see the difference between 5 years at the Spurs and 5 years at another team.

Spurs are the only team that can offer the Super Max at $219M over 5 years. If he gets traded and signs an extentsion with the new team he can get $183m. If he’s not traded, but instead leaves as a 2019 FA he can sign for $140m/4yr.
Exactly. Also, there is no endersoment deal that can give him the money he loses...He would lose almost $50M not signing the supermax.
Yeahhhh I call his bluff and make him chase 140/4yr...
What could Spurs offer him if he plays out his deal??
Thanks. It looks like it's still a bigger gap that I thought. Good to know there is still a big difference from 5 years at the Spurs and 4 + an extension at another team.
Depends. If he doesn’t sign the SuperMax this offseason and instead decides to play out next season, SA could still offer him the SuperMax again if he qualifies (would have to make all nba team, win mvp, etc...to requalify). If not, then it’s closer to the 183M I believe
Do you mean if the Spurs don't offer him the supermax. Why does he decide to play out next season having to play other year for the same team to sign with them for less money after a year? It doesn't make sense.
Agreed, but it doesn’t matter the reason. The point remains. Maybe he wants to assess what SA does this next season before he decides if he wants to stay? He can still get the SuperMax if he waits, whatever the reason, is the point. He would just have to re-qualify (which obviously poses some risk to him)
I agree that the more likely scenario is that SA doesn’t offer him that contract this Summer if he’s not signed to it.
He's not a vet like CP3 and LeBron with many max deals signed in their careers that can wait and see...Like you said the most likely scenario is the other.
"THEY" didn't call a meeting... TONY called it... So this isn't an issue where the TEAM is wondering anything about Kawhi... TONY was
Most reports were than Manu and TP headed it I thought but remember Manu was the one that made the comment the media made them all believe he was coming back soon and then they got in a slump before this most recent surge about 10 games ago.
This doesn't make sense... Do u have a favorite player on the Spurs?
Why is Kawhi in NY where it's raining and snowing and dropping into the 30s at night when he could be enjoying the 70s here in S.A.?
No, wait, SJax said Tony didn't have the balls to call the meeting. Neither did Manu.
Tony called the meeting... SJax was saying it was Pop's idea... U can't be this uninformed
from early last month...
first time i’ve gotten around to watching it. when asked if he wants to finish his career with the spurs he answers without hesitation.
SJax is gospel around here.
Except everybody says that until they make a trade demand.
Dummy... YOU brought him up first! I was just correcting YOU
He sure didn't sound convincing. "yeah...sure". And not to read too much into it but he didn't look like he meant it either. Barely looking up.
He said "for sure"... Not yeah.... Sure... But facts, right?
