Had that cop in Florida been inside the building instead of outside, with his life on the line, he would no doubt have taken action. When you have safety of choice quite often you'll not enter the fray. Most victims don't have a choice. It would be nice to have a choice. 2nd to that would be to have a way to defend yourself. But let's dump everything on the hope that we can rid the world of the means to attack instead of preparing ourselves to defend against it. History is obviously on our side.

One only needs to look back to people like the Unabomber to see that, if you kill enough people, you'll become famous and a movie will be made about you. It matters less why people are doing this than how we can protect children from it. 300 million people of vastly different cultural upbringing, mindset, background, disposition, all with the potential to do harm. Its amazing you cannot take a nail file on an airplane but you can carry a ing long gun into a school because no one wants to be searched.
