Being at the school doesn't mean he learned of the shootings there. Where are you saying he learned of the shootings? And to put it differntly, news of the shooting was transmitted to Hogg at his home regardless of your answer.

He went back to school to get interviews after watching news coverage of the shooting on tv.

Assuming Hogg's story about being at the shooting is true:
1. His parents were surely with him in the time after the evacuation during his time of great trauma.So, when Hogg would've decided to go back to school, he would have received a ride from either of them (or even one of his many friends returning to the school). Also,at the idea that a rich like him doesn't have (car) wheels at 18. I highly doubt that in the first place!
2. He doesn't have an OMG reaction to the news of the kills on the TV news b/c he obviously already knows that they occurred.
