Cris Carter is fine to say that, but just yesterday he implored Magic to offer up the house for Kawhi. He knows that they will lose Kawhi if they don’t make a big trade for him.

I'd dig it up but I'm feeling lazy today, that Polack reporter on ESPN said that GMs around the league had questions about the injury, questions about why he didn't play. You do not want that rep with the people who make the decisions on who plays where and for how much. This was in the context for why the trade offers so far for Leonard have been . While, yes, some of it was simple negotiating, there's a lot of truth to that.
Media helps a player generate perceived value - not owners. Owners just follow the perceived value to put butts in seats.

"I don't necessarily like how he's going about it, and I can go into that but it won't change the reality of the situation so instead let's just talk about how the Spurs would be foolish to not trade him to LA. How Kawhi holds all the power because he can just void a trade by not showing up for his physical."

This is gross, man. The Spurs have been a model franchise for decades but because we're a small-market and the team he wants to go to is the NBA's darling, nobody is willing to call out Kawhitter for the bull he is pulling. If he had quit on and was abandoning NY or LA in the manner he's doing it in, there would be an uproar.

How can you not be disillusioned with the league after this?

LA taking heat for not going after Cousins so their response was to say that “they want to win now and be as compe ive as possible so they could not wait like GS on a player who won’t be ready to start the year”. They are also telling their fans that “we aren’t in a rush to get Kawhi because we have the clearance to play the long game and we don’t have to rush to win now”.

    Ummm......
The only consistent thing about the Lakers organization since West left and Buss died is that ownership knows they can sell anything to that idiot fanbase and they'd lap that up.

Great move by the Lakers, worked out real well last time an All-Star small forward wanted to come to LA.
Do you know what Spurs are asking? We all know the price for LA is higher than for the eastern conference teams which the Spursqould prefer anyway. Lol. You are really questioning Kawhi as a top level NBA talent? This guy can outplay all of them considering he is the number one stopper for Harden, Currry, Durant, and Lebron. The other guy's defense doesn't hold a candle to Kawhi's. Offensively he is as efficient as those players too. If he played in a higher powered offense he would be a 30 pt scorer. Injury wise, I have no idea what is going on.

Nah, that value is overrated. Leonard, before this year, is a prime example - talent gets paid.

    Cowhered is already starting.

Once more people jump into this, the spurs will have no choice but to trade him.

Having a racist organization in a predominantley Black league is suicide
It's predominantly, as in "apalisoc_9 is predominantly a re when he logs in to Spurstalk."

You think? I got friends that range from Rockets to Thunder fans, even Laker fans thinking Kawhi is a .
Are those fans opining on national media? That's who does the "thinking" for most "fans".

You're confused man, confused about the situation, confused about my characterization of Kawhi's abilities, etc. Kawhi in 2016-2017 was the MVP of the league, no question. Lot has changed since then.

Disagree. Kawhi might have screwed SA really bad and there is a legit chance other teams don’t make offers.

Hmmm. The CBA over the last few decades has enabled smaller market teams to be compe ive and win. The tension has been with the media outlets which favor larger markets. Remember when Musberger talked about the 'shame' of DRob going to small market SA instead of NY or LA? Right now the reason the Spurs have some leverage is because of the CBA and the supermax provision.

RC should just come out and say we've decided not to trade Kawhi Leonard, he is under contract, and we'll see him at training camp. Obviously, that won't stop offers coming in, but taking a public position that he will be playing for the Spurs this year will change the media narrative. If his mouth pieces like Carter advocate sitting out or a "flare up" of the old injury they'll be hanging themselves with their own rope. It will turn the narrative from "bad spurs" to "is Kawhi really going to breech a contract or fake an injury (again)".

If his group doesn't get what they want they will go the race card route. During the playoffs Jalen Rose who I believe is one of his uncle's mouthpieces attempted to call Pop a racist. Jalen said that Pop using the word group to describe Kawhi's people was racist. Mic e Beadle immediately interrupted him and shot him down before he could go more into detail.
So let them, pop is close to retirement and is the face of the Olympic team. It's going to be hard to whitewash him and if they did, spurs replace him with a woman, an African, or the Italian. All it will accomplish is having pop take the team to the slavery museum sooner! Kawhi can whisper all he wants but pop is closer to almost all nba players whereas kawhi is a mute. You don't hear active players taking up for him now. I doubt they will start.

The danger for jalen and Carter saying it is that they look reactionary and out of touch. In the age of trump racism is kind of loud and out. Your whisper campaign isn't going to move pop into that camp.

Also, Nick Wright is wrong. A team doesn’t have to have a physical to do the trade. Kawhi himself can’t void anything. He could get a physical, fail and STILL a team could do the trade.

Probably already posted, but you know...

Kawhi wants out because he's a "free thinker"

New spin is Kawhi's bad endorsements are PATFO.

Saying just ignoring training camp or a physical if traded somewhere you don't wish to go is a reasonable option for KL. Good lord.

Amazing, to watch them pile them on.

He’s Kawhitter’s chief publicist tbh. Jabari works under his tutelage.
Yes, he is used as the mouth piece for his group. They are beginning to shift from desperate to angry/disrespected within a day. They leak info to everyone else like Jabari, Jaylin Rose. They are ruining Kawhi’s brand singlehandedly. He can’t skip physicals or refuse to play for another team. Silver will suspend his ass and make an example out of him.

What the Spurs are currently doing is smart tbh. These leaks of the Spurs wanting the farm in a trade is basically an indirect way of saying "We value Kawhi very highly and think the world of him. It would take an absolute godfather offer for us to even consider moving him. We're prepared to play the season out with him because even 1 season of Leonard is worth it to us, he's that good."

I'd think they benefit from issuing a direct statement akin to the above (RC kinda already did during his draft interview) and they should say the same thing to Kawhi's group if they haven't done so already.

It boosts his trade value and plants the seed in Leonard's mind that being Pippen to Bron in LA probably isn't his best course of action. He expands his list publicly and the Spurs are in good shape again.

Here is the reality in all this. Pop and RC know what is going on and know what offers they are getting from other teams. All this media chatter is contradictory and means nothing. The Spurs know if there is a good package available. And if the offers are such that the Spurs are better off keeping Kawhi and going all in this year with a see-what-happens at ude at the end of the year, then that's what will happen.

Leaks and threats and all this stuff reported by the media, if a taken as true, would make no sense. He wants LA, but he would consider Boston and Philly, but he calls Lebron and wants to play with Lebron, but then if Lebron is in LA, he wants to go to the Clippers. But the Spurs hands are tied except that he'd consider Philly. And Boston won't be involved at all, except their name keeps getting mentioned. This is all media nonsense. The parties know what is going on behind closed doors and none of this talk matters, except for fans to speculate as to what it all means.
