I like Forbes. Pair him with one of DJ, Manu, and White at all times. Let them guard 2s and let Forbes guard 1s (if it's a smaller 2 it doesn't matter) and I guarantee his defensive metrics will improve drastically. He is a good defender, imho.

All the wrath should be directed at Belli. He has no business being on the team.

While Forbes looks strong with big arms for his slender frame, I don't remember any strength plays.

I no longer have any games to review, but I don't offhand remember him overpowering anyone with those arms. All show and no go, maybe? I don't remember any tough rebounds, or blowing up screens, chucking defenders off him getting free. Defending post players on switches like Marcus Smart or Tony Allen or Chris Paul.

Maybe he did and I don't remember.

Did he do some great job on Durant or Klay that I erased from my memory with the rest of the first round?

For the past two years, I kept expecting this guy to breakout because he does have excellent form and looks to be a great shooter. But it also seems like he's so damn nervous that it really wrecks his game. I feel that's all that holds him back.

Look, he's on the Spurs, and if he can somehow put it all together, he has the tools. I'm not going to sit here and claim to think its going to happen because I don't. But he's a Spur, and I hope he does. I'll be rooting for him to succeed for sure.

That's the only thing that makes sense, there has to be a trade on the horizon. Package Pau and Mills for somebody then sign a big to replace Pau (Oakafor maybe).
In this season of major turnover, Patty ain't going anywhere. In truth, there isn't really a way to package two bad contracts in any season.

I dont think most teams consider mills a bad contract. As for packaging them it would have to be a 3 team trade where one went to sacramento and Sacramento would receive compensation for taking the contract.

Forbes is bigger, stronger and willing to fight harder on D than Mills.
Granted - Bryn is somewhat bigger and stronger. But as SAGirl observed, he gets lost too often and he commits silly fouls - especially against 3-point shooters. Hopefully he improves on those mental aspects this season, because he does seem like a willing worker on defense. But I think Patty is plenty willing to fight. I don't fault him for his defensive effort. He is just such a flyweight that "fighting" avails him of very little. He gets murdered on screens, but he tries to fight through them imho.

That's something you can tinker with on the trade machine. Patty ain't going anywhere - especially this season.

Whats with all of these ing re s thinking Forbes can play "some" defense. Forbes is ing horrendous on defense.

Do you guys actually watch the games?
Either they don't watch them, or they have a hard on for Charity Case and are compelled to defend him because it's pretty clear he can't defend anyone.

    He sucks. Period.

    I forgot about that

Forbes does have a tendency to miss a bunch of open 3's, somehow he shot 39% on them, he also seems to beat him self up which can compound the problem. Neal was far from perfect but at least his confidence level never seemed to wane when his shot wasn't going in.
The playoffs he was worse. Atleast you know with Patty he going to hit them when it matters.

Perplexing why he was re-signed. For me that's a valuable roster spot wasted. maybe someone in the know can confirm but wasn't Bryn & RC connected somehow. Obligation signing perhaps?

Only reason to sign him is if you plan on using him in some type of trade in the future. I’ll e happy as when Forbes and Gasol leave or traded. Bring over Nikola and sign Livio or Metu or Hanga.

You know what, Forbes might suck at everything, but at least he's not afraid to take the shot. That's half the battle right there for a shooter.

Just like I'm not going to ask Patty and Marco to defend, I will be asking these guys to score the damn ball when they get an open look.

Yup. Spurs will have to change their game and play like Houston. Keep chucking and play the percentages!

Derozen can actually drive to the basket, and kick out (hopefully), so Forbes, Bertans and the rest should get better looks than last year, and shoot more often, which should lead to better 3Pt%. I expect Forbes and Bertans to be above 40%

Forbes may be my least favorite Spur in almost fifteen years of being a fan, he just pisses me off.
This... his very demeanor on the court is utterly deflating. His boneheaded decision-making is the norm, not the exception. Perhaps it was his off-court issues that messed with his play, but everytime he stepped on the court - he was prone to doing something dumb.
