You are comparing situations with extreme power difference. The same thing can be said for the Cosby situation or the Penn State situation. People not coming forward in those situations makes sense. Of course people can still wait but it's less likely. It's quite foolish to compare these to the two you listed. That being said there are numerous reasons to believe these accusations are cooked up.

Saying "we're fairly early in the process" seems to insinuate that something recently occurred. The allegations are fairly new, but the event in question was 36 years ago. If Dr Ford was just Mrs Ford, and not a clinical psychologist, one could more easily accept that she saw the nomination of BK and decided enough is enough, but as a clinical psychologist who has even been to therapy and supposedly mentioned it, the severity of the event could very easily be overblown, or perhaps it wasn't this guy at all. I mean, to say that traumatized you yet your only compelled to do anything about it when your political party needs it, that makes me think you're the one with something to hide. I should not think an accuser has something to hide.

The reason why not is because they haven't. There's no right to procedural or substantive fairness in a Senate confirmation. If the Senators decide they don't like you for whatever reason, you don't get the promotion.
A Senate confirmation is a job interview, not an impartial tribunal. It would be so much the worse if it pretended it were.
