,000 Beer Cans Found in Ogden Townhouse
May 17th, 2006 @ 9:38pm
John Hollenhorst reporting
A seemingly unbelievable mess discovered last year in an Ogden townhouse has suddenly become an Internet legend.
It's all TRUE!
You know how some people, after they use something, just can't bear to throw it away. That might make sense if it's magazines or clothes. But what if it's empty beer cans? In astounding numbers?
When property manager Ryan Froerer got a call from a realtor last year to check on a townhouse, he knew something was up.
Ryan Froerer, Century 21: "Said it was the sickest thing he's ever seen. Just unimaginable that someone could live in that."
He couldn't even open the front door. It was blocked from inside.
Ryan Froerer, Century 21: "There was beer cans I would say probably this high up on the door."
The realtor had forewarned him about the smell.
Ryan Froerer, Century 21: "He poked his head in, the smell was so awful he couldn't go in. "
At the back door, Froerer was astounded by what he saw in the kitchen.
Ryan Froerer, Century 21: "As we approached the door, there were beer boxes, all the way up to the ceiling."

24 Beers A Day For 8 Years...My Hero
My house could've been full of hundreds of 40 bottles had I not thrown them out.
average can weight = .5 oz
70,000* .5 /16= 2187lbs
2187lbs * .45Cents a pound on the west side = $984.00
sweet....
Rent a U-Haul and bring 'em up to Michigan. At $.10 a can, you would walk away with $7,000.00, less expenses.
Sounds like someone pulled a good prank when moving out of their apartment.
Creative. We just used to take the celebratory pee into the fireplace after getting drunk and throwing the old used couch over the 3rd floor balcony.
10 cents? No ? I'm no expert on recyclying or whatever, but that sounds good.
Yeah, I'm 26, and it has been that way ever since I could remember. It is a form of recycling, but you pay the $.10 in advance (deposit) and thus get it back when you return them. I believe our legislature introduced the policy as a way of keeping the streets clear of empty beer cans.
Looks like Midge coulda lived there.
damn... so you all pay 10cents more per can..... that's a $1.20 extra per 12pack
Yup, it's been around so long that it is just part of the norm. Whenever you see a price for pop or beer, you automatically add $.10 per can or bottle. The best is going in after a big party and grabbing a trash bag full of cans. You could make an easy $20 or $30 no sweat.
i have family in detroit.. maybe i should go there for teh summer and make some unreported cash. and i can fulfill a dream of being one of those dudes that walks around with a shopping cart, set some houses on fire, take a picture under one of those no standing signs, and buy a cheap house.
.45 cents a pound?!?
That's it??!!?
We get $1.40 a pound out here!
You guys call it POP in Michigan? I always laugh at what people call sodas in different parts of the country. Cracks me up.
Pop is a musical genre', not a beverage!
I call all types of soda, Coke.
"Buy me a Coke."
"What kind?"
"Dr. Pepper."
Yeah, I have always called it a soda. In Seattle they call it POP, which used to annoy the out of me. I remember in Virginia they used to call a Sprite a "Scrite". Don't ask why, just the way it was.
Growing up my mom always drank Diet Dr. Pepper so I always related "DP" to Dr. Pepper. But now in my house we drink Diet Pepsi. My husband calls it "DP" and it still confuses me even after nine years because my brain wants to process it as Dr. Pepper rather than Diet Pepsi.![]()
jesus-"tio! can you get me a Coke?!"
tio pepe- "Chure" (tio hands jesus a big red and infact there is no actual Coke in the cooler)
"Pop" is very midwest. They call it that in Chicago.
In New England, it's a "tonic".
I remember in high school in SA, everthing was a "coke":
"You wanna coke?"
"Yeah."
"What kind?"
"Orange."
I'll send Kramer and Newman over to get them!
