Per 24/7, they haven't heard that ATH Bru McCoy signed yesterday but he has been accepted by both Texas and USC.

Coach Mehringer has spoken with the famiy in the last 48 hours and he's still scheduled to announce his decision at the All-American Bowl on January 5th.

McCoy will be privately signing today, per The Athletic.

This . The maturing and development of large human beings is a hard thing to predict.

We don't over estimate either.
People can't name the long list of 2-3 stars that don't pan out because they are not supposed to. But guys like JJ Watt are front page news. The kid has a ton of physical development to go through, but is apparently a good athlete. And he is being developed for a very specific kind of physical activity, blocking. Crap shoot. We like his length, his agility. But I would rather have Walker Little. Unfortunately he is in California. But we are in no position to pass on the OL like Alabama. So...

Gotta also wonder about the household not even knowing about Baylor... Maybe the entire family just got interested in sports.

It's a bit early to determine the keys to success next year.

With that said, the biggest weakness this year was the defense took a step back from last year. Hard to say how it will perform next year with so many new faces. I think we will not see a drop off in the production of our DEs, in fact I expect to see improved performance now that Hager is gone. In the middle I think you will see both Ojomo and Coburn improve the play there. I really like Ojomo now that he is 18 or is he 17? Linebackers is a big question, we have talent but is it enough? In the secondary we have some badass safeties, but our corners are suspect. I'm hoping our young guys can step up and make DBU what it once was.

This defense will go as far as our run defense will allow us to go. That is my key to success.

On ATH Bru McCoy...his father informed OrangeBloods that the plan currently is to hold off on signing since there's no reason to rush.

At least one small positive working in Texas' favor is while the McCoys are aware that Kingsbury was an excellent hire for USC, they also know there's no guarantee he is there for three or four years because he could leave for another job or Helton could be fired.

There are no doubts with UT's stability and the relationships the family has with Herman, Carrington and Coach Mehringer.

Bru isn’t coming here. They fired that whole staff just like we did with Mack before we eventually fired him too. They know the writing is on the wall. If he was ever going anywhere but USC he’d already be signed at the University of Texas.

It’s fairly simple in my opinion. If Texas can run the ball on O and stop the run on D next year they win the big 12. Barring any devistating injuries of course.

It reminds me of a few of the big recruitments when Mack was fired/retired/whatever.

A few guys like DT Solomon Thomas and S Jamal Adams went elsewhere because UT was such a mess.

USC is definitely not in a good spot, but they still may be able to get him despite all of the other top Cali kids choosing to play at other schools like Oregon.
