Wouldn't surprise me if PATFO went as soft as possible and only had Gasol give up a token amount to make this happen. I'm assuming he stays on the books for about $5 Million or so next year unless notified otherwise. If that is the case, Gasol's salary could be "set off" by whatever deal he signs next summer. We can cross that bridge if we come to it, but in that case, the max the Spurs could set off would be about another $2.5 Million.

Obviously hoping he had to give make way more than this.
If he signs another deal. This year may be it for him.

wasn't it more that he denied requesting a trade? not so much that the spurs were actually trying to trade him.

either way, this is a bigger deal in the sense that now Poetel knows hes the big man of this team. No need to look over his shoulder. And Our team just got younger by subtracting a 38 year old player.
And most of us were afraid he would still be on the roster next year. for those reasons alone, this was a big deal.
Age difference isn't a big deal because Pau wasn't playing. I think Poeltl already pretty much knew he was the backup big, not that he's anything to write home about. Pau was older but he was injury insurance and wasn't going to see court time otherwise.

FWIW, he won't see much playing time in Milluakee either.

Now get rid of DeMar and Patty on draft day or in the summer and my faith for PATFO will start coming back.

Peace out Pau. Seeing your jersey in the team store at the ATT always felt awkward.

Hmmm... a call-up from the Austin Spurs, ala Ben Moore or Josh Huestis? I don't see it happening, let alone any other signings, but I can definitely see more of Metu & Eubanks being available for games as injury insurance though. Adios Pau, shoulda signed sooner when you had the chance, lol! GSG!!!

Liked him while here, but we weren't the same team once quitter left and Pau's best days are behind him.

Don't watch enough to know what kind of role he will have with the Bucks.

Good luck Pau. Hope we don't pay anything next year for you ...

    Poor sods

Gasol was serviceable during his 1st year and shooting consistent from 3 but still on defense and asking for ref help instead of running down the court.

lol i did the same thing. curious to see what they were saying.
biggest difference though, they already have a great team right now and don't really need him. But having him as a mentor/5th big man doesn't hurt in their case.

what happened to that. i remember that actually being a serious weapon for this team. but hardly saw it last year and never saw it this year.

they were trying to get something for him, but no takers. Most teams were smart about it unfortunately.

Good news. It'll be interesting to see how much he gave back.

I'm sure the Spurs' opening offer was Gasol erasing his 2019-20 salary. But, honestly, even if he refused to give up anything, this still needed to be done. Poeltl shouldn't have to have one eye looking over his shoulder.

And thanks to Coach Bud again. He took Tiago Splitter's rotting carcass after it became obviously clear Splitter could never stay healthy. Looks like he provided Gasol a soft landing in order to convince him to agree to a buyout

Showcasing him the week before the trade deadline had the opposite effect that they were expecting.

Meh, his trade value was overstated. A buyout is much better than having to trade Gasol and a first rounder to dump his salary, tbh.

Now Mills hopefully, but I doubt it.
While his contract sucks, at least Mills still offers some value to the team. He can turn the microwave on once in awhile
