    We play a 3-4 or sometimes a 3-3-5.
I guess inside the 5 yl you need many bodies. I just thought DE types could play trench warfare and we need twice as many DE in our base defense.
Right but we don’t use traditional DE’s often. Most often we’re filling gaps or coming off the edge with LBs. Almosse is a pure DT. Plug holes and stopping the run. This kid is good. He’d push for starting time based on his film.

I was under the impression this was going to be recruits getting to hang out kind of event but was it more of a training session like we see above? I’m confused or did I miss something?? Did we already hold our gathering?
It was a night camp with the lights on. Mostly underclassman worked out to give coaches a look at their measurements and mobility. Well known established recruits don’t generally workout at them. They do tours and talk to coaches.

My edit sorta covers that idea.
    True about the DEs.

We have Coburn, Ojomo, and 3 seniors at that spot.
So we are not confident in this group?
I was thinking we need some DE types.

I guess I thought Coburn was going to be a monster this year.
If Texas gets a commitment from him he would be stepping on campus when 3 seniors would be leaving. so it would be him Ojomo Coburn and Broughton. It would allow Texas to red shirt Broughton. And give Texas some insurance against injuries.

I think we are a bit thin at the DE spot but if we get Collins and Redding we will be fine.

Yeah Bunkley is special. He’s underrated. You could argue he’s the best slot prospect in the country. Very very good at losing the defender and creating space.

This kid Jerrin Thompson just received his offer this week. I don’t understand how he wasn’t recruited earlier. His film is outstanding. Highly suggest you check the link below. He’s incredible. Balls skills are great. He hits like a truck. He’s good. Real good. He’s the same kid that tweeted “I’m up next” after the Juan Davis announcement.

It's officially a 3-4 or 3-3 but often functions as a 4-3 with different players rotating in to give a four man front such as LB functioning as a standup DE.

Yep. Emphasis on stopping the air attack first and containing the run game by clogging the middle and expecting athletic LBs to step in and make tackles. Defensive ends don’t ordinarily have “pretty” stat lines this way which is why it’s becoming a little harder to recruit elite DE’s. Take Dorbah for example, he plays on the end with his hand down at Highland Park but will look much more like an OLB roll at UT. He’ll put his hand in the dirt on some plays but his athleticism will be used more as a containment/coverage guy.

    Very true as well.
I remember getting mad when it was obvious where our linebacker was coming from and was picked up easily by the opponents offensive line.

You can see the roles assigned in the graphic below. The ends play well inside both tackles to help run support. Dorbah is a “b-backer” in Orlando’s scheme. You could look at this graphic as more of a 3-3 where Dorbah would be standing and is the “swing” player between 4-3 and 3-4. He makes a quick read on his assigned man, usually the tackle, and then either falls into a coverage zone or helps with run support depending on if the tackle run blocks or pass blocks. This is also why our ends don’t look like traditional long athletic guys. Our ends are bigger bodied.

It's situational of course and it's not just the LB. Sometimes a DT will come in for a DE and everyone shifts down filling 4-3 gaps with LB coming up on outside. I like it because it's more flexible and less predictable

I’d also like to add that there are literally hundreds of different looks you will see on game days because Orlando is much better at this than the average internet football guru. Lol. This is the gist of the idea behind the way a 3-3/3-4 defensive line looks. There’s a reason Orlando gets paid big bucks while guys like us are just trying to keep up.

Muschamp was very good at disguising his plays pre-snap as well which is why they very successful on defense

That seven V seven absolutely helped to increase the skill level of wide receivers and quarterbacks
Put these better skilled, very athletic kids in a good offensive system and things get very difficult for the D

There were times last year when I thought the opposing quarterback was just sitting back there not being pressured.
It’s tough when you watch on TV and you can’t see down the field if everyone is covered or not. Frustrating.
