Russia's capacity to reach the sea is limited by geography, so ports in the north and south seas, leading to larger waters, are crucial.
As the map below illustrates, Sevastopol is a strategically important base for Russia's naval fleet, in addition to being Russia's only warm water base. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, a 1997 treaty with Ukraine allowed Russia to keep its Black Sea Fleet pretty much intact (with 15,000 personnel currently stationed) and lease the base at Sevastopol (extended to expire in 2042).

With Trump as president the mask has fallen off the evil empire. Trump doesn't hide everything evil the United States represents - the theft and murder. None of this would have happened had Killary been president. Liberals would still be asleep. I'm glad Trump is exposing our banana Republic. I hope Trump brings the empire closer to it's collapse.

I asked for a treaty not US "assurances."

Still not seeing any justification for invading Ukraine.

But now we’re too big to fail. It’s like we can’t lose — it’s impossible.

you said both. there was never a NATO agreement either. Bush made assurances to Gorbachev; France and Germany had other ideas. We already discussed this.

I still don't see how that justifies the invasion of Ukraine even if it were the case.

Assad is transparent even if he does not want to be with the outside.

His people know he will gas and torture them, he has made that abundantly clear.
Just as people who oppose Putin in “elections” know they might go missing.

And lol Trump unmasking, like this means something honest will come out of his mouth. Were Trump and Assad transparent with each other when we bombed Syria?

Lavrov also said that the Russian military still do not have enough information to confirm with confidence that the self-proclaimed ‘Caliph’ is indeed dead. “We want to get additional information,” he said.

“It was all stated triumphantly and jubilantly. Yet, our military still study the issue and … cannot confirm many US statements so far.”

    1) Where is Sochi and what country is it in?
    2) That is not a legal justification. By that notion we should invade Venezuela because of their location on the north coast of South America. Cannot have missiles that close to Miami.

    1) You said that Russia needed Crimea to have access to the Black Sea. They have most of the east coastline of the Black Sea in Russia proper. Soichi is part of that.
    2) Horse . Again, by your logic we would be justified in invading Venezuela. We wouldn't have access to the Gulf of Mexico. . . .

    1) you gotta be dumb. look at a map. If you don't control Sevastopol, you cannot freely traverse the black sea. You basicallly a of whoever controls Sevastopol
    2) we do want to invade Venezuela. But muh Russia came in and said don't do it they also installed S300 batteries which could shoot down US planes. thus a ground war would be needed and good luck facing 1,000,000 chavista men and women in the Venezuelan jungles
