    Better than resigning Mason.
RC and Pop are probably on the phone with him now for the MLE...

    Better than resigning Mason.
Not really. A SG isn't expected to be able to rebound or protect the interior, and thus would be a of a lot easier to cover up on defense than Bonner.

Kind of like chopping off a limb is better than shooting yourself in the face?

But it is detrimental, the guy can't shoot in the playoffs. What good is relying on someone who can't provide? I'd be as much use to the Spurs as Bonner in the postseason.
i don't like it, but i'm not going to complain until he's playing more than 6-8 minutes a night.

plus, as much as he chokes in the playoffs, just GETTING to the playoffs is no longer assured.

Bonner provides no spacing because he can't hit an important shot, and the opportunity cost of having a big on the floor who can grab a board and not get torched every possession is a of a steep price to pay for all those missed shots. Bonner is dog and we all stepped in it.
Then who is hitting that important shot? Who is the replacement player?

I'm telling you, the Spurs were going to fill that role regardless and give whoever assumed that role some minutes. How many minutes is a legit question for any player in that role, including Bonner.

If Blair, Splitter and especially Dice prove to be more beneficial on the court, then Bonner's minutes are limited.

Either way, this is not the end of the world.

No need to buy season tickets now. What's next, Finley and RMJ coming back too?
That's a real fan right there.

It's probably no more than $4M per season. They didn't just give him "big 3" type money, and money doesn't determine PT for the Spurs...just ask Jefferson.
Ridiculous. Its not just about playing time is it? Its about us being 4 million closer to the tax. If this prevents us from using our LLE - that would be unfortunate.

Bonner is a good positional defender. He knows where to be and is very rarely in the wrong spot. Obviously other things like his lateral speed and lack of strength in the post cause problems. Still a better defender than Mason is.

Def better than Mason, who couldn't hit a shot whether in crunch time or out of it. And his perimeter defense was as bad or worse than Bonner's interior D.

I'd definitely be pissed if Mason were brought back, but I see little-to-no chance of that happening.

I don't see how the Spurs can justify paying 5 bigs (TD, Blair, Dice, Bonner, and Splitter) next year when there are holes at other positions, ESPECIALLY when we know only 1 of those 5 will be on the court much of the time during Pop's "Small Ball."

To me, Bonner's re-signing means one of four things:

    1. Splitter has decided to remain in Europe
    2. Dice is either retiring or will be traded
    3. The Spurs will trade Splitter's rights to another team and then use the MLE on a small forward and sign someone like Shaq to be the 5th big
    4. (God forbid) Blair will be traded in a package to acquire a legit small forward

Finley would have been a better choice. At least he can hit a clutch shot. Or Mason. He did it a couple of times. , Steve Smith's corpse would have been better.

    Stop being overdramatic.

Matt Bonner has as much responsibility in the end of an era as he did in sustaining it...i.e. none. This era is built on the big 3 and when are gone, the era is over.

If you disagree with the direction of your favorite team the only action a real fan has is to limit what he willing to spend on that team. Casual fans don't care and neither do bandwagon fans. True fanatics are trade away from being on lockdown suicide watch.

Awesome, so now you're pimping the "small ball" idea that gets killed in here on a regular basis?

And Mason hasn't hit a clutch shot in a year and a half. In fact, I think his last clutch shot was his last made shot.
