Sonnen fought his ass off and I give him props for that. Most fighters would have just laid on him for the last two rounds knowing that they would win by decision but this guy wanted to prove a point. After being dominated for 4.5 rounds silva found a way to win the fight and you can't take that away from him. I would love to see a rematch and I still think Silva comes out on top.

Yeah most fighters would have also left there with a belt. Sonnen was just stupid.

It looked to Sonnen was trying to pull off a phantom tap. I'm glad Rosen was right on it.

Now that the next WW and HW le fights are set I don't see anything changing. GSP will beat Kos like he beat Fitch and Fitch will again lose to GSP in a mirror image of their last fight. As for HW, the only guy I think has a chance against Brock is Carwin. Cain=shorter version of Carwin. JDS=smaller not as powerful version of Carwin

I know these stats don't mean anything considering the results but:

MMA Live Amazing stat from @Computstrike: Chael Sonnen outlanded Anderson Silva, 289-29, setting record for most strikes landed in a fight.

MMA Live Even more amazing stat from last night? Anderson Silva had only been hit with 208 strikes COMBINED in his first 11 @UFC fights. WOW.
Yet Silva's face doesnt seem to have a scratch. Sonnen's face is blasted. wow..

you don't have to have marks on your face to know if a guy is hurt or not.

Silva was never in danger once in that fight. He was smothered and dominated, but never in danger. Anderson will beat Chael again if he cant finish the fight. Silva will bounce back 10 times better. Again, I think he is starting his decline though..

Just watched it again. What a fight. I feel so bad for Chael to lose like that after all he put in. I think this will probably be the first maybe in a trilogy with these guys.. Rematch has to happen..

Sonnen has lost 11 fights 8 by submission but none ever like this with what he had done in this fight.. His corner had to be thinking as the choke was in place

    " not again"

No trilogy unless Sonne wins re-match, but it could easily turn into one of the best "grudge" matches if it gets that far. Dammit >.< I was already imagining Sonnen defending against Vitor

  18. #243
Vitor was already rumored to fight the winner of this fight , so it maybe Vitor vs Silva first then Sonnen next

It wasn't all that bad...not nearly as bad as the blasting you are allowing Silva to give you in the face.

what was strange was silva didn't sprawl once until the 5th round.... i think that rib injury was legit.

Silva has never had good TDD. Fighters with average wrestling like Nate Marquadt, Rich Franklin, Thales Leites all got TD on him in the UFC.. Sonnen is the first double leg machine animal wrestler he fought that is pretty well rounded except for sub defense..

Of course Sonnen has to win the rematch. He can honestly be a little less aggressive on top next time and still win. Silva never came close to getting up one damn time when he was taken down. Sonnen blew his load a bit in the first 4 and he was lazily sitting in Silva's guard when he got hit with that triangle. Agree with your point about Vitor, i was looking forward to that as well. I think Sonnen dominates Vitor. Randy broke him badly more than once.. o got enough TD's to beat him.. He is another great striker that hates fighting wrestlers..

high and tight sonnen, too low
    high and tight!!!!
stay high and tight, and you have this Sonnen!!!

Amen Brother.. HE was gassed and got a little lazy in there. Damn Sonnen Damn!!!!!!

I was going crazy at my friends mma forum www.mmafans.net when that fight was happening, I knew both Sonnen had a tendency to get submitted and Silva is good at that triangle, especially with his long legs.

That was the first time during the match that he sat up on Silva's guard for the GnP, and he never got a punch off.

The main reason I thought it was Sonnen's night was for 4 reasons:

    1. He didn't get KO early on in the 1st
    2. He got tons of take downs
    3. In the 1st (I think) Silva caught one of his kicks (which usually means bad things) but he did this awesome flip to get out of it.
    4. When Silva finally got on top in the 3rd or 4th, Sonnen reversed it

    -----

I went going in with my predictions knowing that Silva was probably going to win hands down because he is that good; I was picking Sonnen because I was hoping with his wrestling (wrestlers have given Silva trouble in the past, especially Hendo) would force a long compe ive match and show Silva that everything isn't easy and would hopefully bring his ego back down to earth. Well Sonnen did that even in the loss, they both even hugged after the fight to show respect for each other.

White needs to start giving Silva only top 4 MW contenders the rest of his career from now on. He had a pretty easy ride the beginning and middle part of his UFC career, finish it off with tough opponents.

I'm still new to MMA/UFC stuff, my friend got me into it like 1 1/2 years ago. So every now and then there are fighters I don't know, certain historic fights I've never heard of.

But just like in every other sport that I start to pick up, I can usually tell what fighting styles match up well with each other and when the turning point in a fight happens.

I can't wait for UFC 118: Penn vs Edgar II and Couture vs Toney
