Once Upon a Time in America tbqh
I give you too much credit, sometimes.
A fan ingtastic movie that goes under the radar too often in these types of convos.
Funny you mention this. I just started rewatching last night on Netflix. Going to finish it tonight.
I give you full credit for taking three hours to admit Unforgiven is a western.![]()
Crusader Chump
I'm not sure it fits the category perfectly, but I think my favorite western might be or High Water.
God damn, can you two not do this in every thread.
Yeah that one is great, seen most of his docs.
!!! That’s what I’m saying! It’s an actual interesting thread about everyone can generally just talk about.
I think it's underrated. Lots of people seem to be undecided whether to take Chris Pine seriously as an actor, but that's a solid movie all around.
or High Water was great. Pine and Foster had solid chemistry as brothers and old Jeff Bridges as a lawman is just ing nails. My girl had never seen it and we watched it a week or so ago.
There are about a 10ish movies I will watch at least once a year every year.
The Godfather
King Kong 1933
Casablanca
Cool Hand Luke
Road House
Crossroads
On the Waterfront
The Seachers
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Remember the ans
Citizan Kane is ok but probably the most overrated movie of all time.
Really hard to pinpoint the greatest movie because of the different genres.
BUT......The Godfather.....gets my vote.
My fave film. This is a spectacular sequence (however it is missing the segue into Monument Valley). Once Upon A Time In The West is a masterpiece.
It's all subjective but mine in no order
The good the bad the ugly
Once upon a time in Hollywood
Pulp fiction
Heat
Goodfellas
Jackie Brown
Predator
Face/off(Nick cage at his best lol)
Reservoir dogs
Another fistfull of dollars
Dumb and Dumber
Chinatown
The ninth gate
Eyes wide shut
Why "Road House," Sir? I ain't trying to bust your balls, I'd sincerely like to hear your reasoning.
It's a fun movie and a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it doesn't belong on a list like that.
Fargo
Was so interesting for me in so many different ways. Its your basic Coen, start with a plan and things swing wildly out of control, but the things interwoven are great. The accents are what stick with many, but there are so many interesting interactions. The marriage between Marge and Norm is so typical, but lays bare a strong woman having to bring her big baby man along; But at the same time they are totally in love. Little things like this... Old HS crushes crushed in an absolutely baldly embarrassing manner because being polite is not enough... so much little human interplay stuffed into this movie.
Cannot be watched once.
Might have to split hairs on the re-watch value. I think I may have had the DVD and never watched it.
Butat the line(s) that comes right after this clip ends:
Rewatch for me because I saw it as a youngster and had no idea why I liked it so much.
An older person explained why he liked it and then I started learning why I liked it. Then Snowball because I missed so much. That same person would be fairly astounded if he asked me why I liked it now because I could not stop.
Just one example: How the father treats his son when he has to tell him what has happened to mom. This seemingly mild mannered, but incredibly desperate man, shows the most callous sense of humanity that overlaps with the basic generalization of the unflappable midwestern personality. I found it thoroughly disgusting. Then it’s, “ go practice your accordion” at ude and don’t bug me with your unnecessary emotions. I have more important things to ponder.
American Reunion was only faintly on my radar when it came out, so I didn't watch it.
I caught it on TBS on demand last night; it's definitely worthy of the franchise. Solid.
I didn't watch American Pie Naked Mile or whatever other presumably shameless attempts to capitalize. But everything I've seen with Stifler and the gang actually in it has been top shelf.
