Dallas they told was out. Hence Dirk signing the new deal.
Lakers are better off just being a non-playoff team until Kobe's contract is off the books, loading up on assets until that point, and then making a big splash in free agency with younger stars(Westbrook, for instance)..
Kobe is still a big enough draw that he will keep the fans in the seats, tbh..
Ridiculous to make a blanket assumption like that. If you can acquire players that will enable you then acquire them. If not, let it go. Acquiring garbage will only produce garbage (GIGO).
Which is my point about Carmelo..he's a pointless addition..
They aren't going to contend with him, what's the point of having him on a max deal in his 30s when he's on the decline and getting fatter by the year?..
That ain't what you said, Hair. You said just mail it in until Kobe is off the books.
Lakers need Carmelo to pull in big name free agents in the future. Guys like Love, Durant, Davis, ect,,,,aren't coming if Lakers just have young guys with potential. But its all moot,,,Melo re-signs with the Knicks.
Lakers chance of landing Melo is just as good as me making the "lunar Goddess" my gf tbh![]()
Well crap, looks like the Lakers just blew their chances:
Kobe Knocks Phil Jackson to Recruit Melo?
Though Bryant missed the Lakers’ presentation to Anthony on Thursday because he was returning from a European vacation, he planned to be in Anthony’s ear all weekend selling Los Angeles. A league source from one of the four other teams in contention suggested it’s possible Bryant gave a not-so-glowing assessment of Jackson.
Bryant and Jackson had their difficulties, though they got along excellently in their final years together. It wasn’t always that way. Jackson sided with Shaquille O’Neal when Shaq and Kobe were teammates, and he famously ripped Bryant in one of his books. When Jackson was asked about Bryant recruiting Anthony on draft night, he said his former player could be “persuasive.’’

You asshole, you.
And here's the killshot:
No way Melo accepts a secondary role to a 36 year old Achilles blown Kirby. This also shows Kobe still delusionally believes he "eats first."
Run, Midst, run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aren't you glad I'm posting this info?
I thought you don't want Melo on the Lakers?
I don't. Neither do you.
The SKUNKER!
The SKUNKER!
Damn right. I want to see those humps on LG suffer.
And I want Kobe playing out his last days with nary a help. I want him in the lottery the last years of his career, alone with only Randle, Swaggy P, and a buncha cast offs as his running mates. It'll be great theater.
Then we're both on the record.
Let us proceed...
Rather get a top 5 pick back from Suns than have Melo at $96 million tbh ...
I hope you are right.
Me too. I want to see the Lakers try to build a team for once. It'd be interesting.
Ranfle and that pick would be sacrificed if they could get a superstar ...but would be nice.
