WikiLeaks dropped on Wednesday morning the fourth installment of its trove of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta’s hacked emails.

The messages released so far — which Clinton's campaign has neither verified nor denied the authenticity of — have provided an unprecedented glimpse into the inner workings of the Clinton camp.

Clinton aide says Sanders has ‘really dumb plans for Wall Street’

Jake Sullivan, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, said Bernie Sanders “has really dumb plans for Wall Street” in an email contained in the hack of John Podesta’s emails.
Clinton’s aides were debating how to best contrast their candidate with Sanders in Nevada, and they disagreed on the best strategy.

Sullivan was pushing to draw a sharper contrast on their Wall Street plans, while Mandy Grunwald advised against it.

“If you want to make the question of the campaign, who will best stand up to Wall Street, Sanders is the answer and he'll give you $35 million reasons why,” Grunwald said. “We have good strong things to say about our plans and we have a great whack on the GOP. I don't know why we would choose to fight this out on Sanders best turf.”

Clinton camp eager to link Monsanto to Flint crisis

Ron Klain celebrated House Republicans adding a paragraph to a chemical safety bill that could shield biotechnology company Monsanto from a legal liability for a toxic chemical that only it manufactured — because Hillary Clinton’s campaign could tie it to the lead crisis in Flint, Michigan, to score political points.

In a March 1 email exchange, Neera Tanden, Hillary Clinton’s 2008 policy director, flagged a New York Times report.

“You guys are probably all over this, but hitting House R's for making it easier for Monsanto to get away w/ poisoning people with PCB's may resonate after what happened in Flint,” she wrote.

“Just sending in,” she noted, pasting the link below. “A single paragraph in the sweeping legislation could shield the company from costly liability for making the now-banned chemicals known as PCBs.”

Klain, Vice President Joe Biden’s former chief of staff who President Barack Obama named the nation’s Ebola czar, simply replied “This is great” in a response to Tanden that also copied Jake Sullivan, John Podesta, Karen Dunn and Sara Solow.

“We are tweeting and doing statement,” Sullivan said. “KC is it out yet?”

Podesta: ‘Promise to shoot me’ if end up like Sid

Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, advised a former Clinton staffer to “promise to shoot me” if he ever ended up like longtime Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal.

In a May 2015 email exchange, Neera Tanden, Clinton’s policy director for her 2008 campaign, told Podesta that “Sidney sure is the gift that keeps giving!”

“It always amazes me that people like Sid either completely lack self awareness or self respect,” Podesta replied. “Maybe both. Will you promise to shoot me if I ever end up like that?”

Palmieri warned against optics of focusing on Trump and ignoring Sanders

Hillary Clinton’s team didn’t want voters to think she jumped the gun by pivoting her attention towards Donald Trump instead of Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary.

In the fourth installment of hacked emails from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s inbox released by WikiLeaks on Wednesday, Clinton’s team discussed placing an op-ed in the New York Daily News about gun control as part of efforts to appear focused on Sanders as her main opponent, rather than Trump.

“Should we directly hit Sanders in this NYDN op-ed right now? I'm a bit skeptical,” Podesta wrote in an email to staff on March 17, 2016.

Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri suggested that focusing too much on Trump could be perceived negatively among voters in the Democratic primary contest.

“My theory is that we do not want to be in a one on one with Trump - but want to hit him occasionally. In which case, we also need to be hitting Sanders occasionally so we can credibly say we are not only focused on the general,” she replied.

But not everyone was on board.

“Is an op-ed the best way to do a contrast? The contrast isn’t really news, is it? We’ve said it all before about him,” Clinton strategist Joel Benenson wrote.
Palmieri reiterated the importance of showing contrast between Clinton and Sanders on guns, a contentious policy issue the two candidates jabbed each other on throughout the primary.

“I think we should do the oped bc NYDN really cares about it and they offered us the space. So good politics on a few fronts. Point of oped is. It to do contrast,” she wrote.

Neera Tanden emailed Alexrod 'to yell at him'

Neera Tanden shared her frustration with David Axelrod in an angry 2015 email to the former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, according to hacked emails released Wednesday by Wikileaks.

Tanden, Hillary Clinton’s 2008 policy director and president of the Center for American Progress, described the email exchange with current Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, adding that Axelrod responded with "w a lot of bs."

“i emailed him to yell at him about his continual quotes,” Tanden wrote Podesta in the June 17, 2015 email. “I very clearly said I was not emailing on behalf of anyone else, I'm just frustrated. He responded w a lot of bs. But I thought I should let you know.”

Abedin: ‘Can we survive not answering questions from press[?]”

In May 2015, Clinton campaign vice chairwoman Huma Abedin asked Hillary Clinton’s advisers on the presidential campaign whether she could “survive not answering questions from press” at major policy-unveiling events during the first leg of the campaign.

“Can we survive not answering questions from press at message events[?]” she wrote. “Her dinkins speech and immigration message broke through because we didn’t take questions. Her community banks message got lost because she answered questions about the foundation and emails.”

“In the fall, starting to do avails at message events, interviews, and q and a with press but having had a series of policy proposals already announced and reported on that she could point to,” Abedin continued.

Podesta, chairman of the Clinton campaign, disagreed.

“If she thinks we can get to Labor Day without taking press questions, I think that’s suicidal,” Podesta wrote. “We have to find some mechanism to let the stream out of the pressure cooker.”

Abedin clarified that she wanted Clinton to be available to the press but wanted to avoid answering off-topic questions at events that are designed to earn coverage for her policy positions and other campaign messages.

“not suggesting no q and a at all,” she wrote, instead suggesting “maybe just having a straight message event and take questions from real people” and taking questions from the press the following day “so that shes not stepping on her own message.”

Throughout 2016, Clinton faced criticism from the press and from Republican nominee Donald Trump for largely avoiding formal press conferences at which reporters could ask questions on any topic. At the beginning of September, Clinton took questions from the traveling press on her campaign plane, ending a 275-day streak of avoiding press gaggles and press conferences.

De Blasio ripped Clinton debate answer on mass incarceration

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was quick to criticize Hillary Clinton on her answer to a question about mass incarceration during a Democratic primary debate against Bernie Sanders.

Newly released emails by WikiLeaks on Wednesday show de Blasio’s frustration about one aspect of Clinton’s longstanding political strategy: Her tendency to make a question all about herself.

“Hillary was fantastic on the gun control answer,” the New York City mayor started in an email on March 6, 2016 to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, whose emails have been subjected to a four-day hack, before launching his critique. “…then totally blew the mass incarceration question.”

“Why on Earth did she say "Are you going to ask Senator Sanders that question?" instead of just addressing the issue. When she makes it about her, she loses the high ground. Stating the obvious, I know, but she keeps doing it...,” he wrote in reference to the primary debate in Flint, Mich. on the same day.

Podesta, acknowledging de Blasio’s concern, responded, “Very fair. She's better in her speeches but reverts in this format. Since we have another debate in 3 days we can work on it.”

De Blasio’s tendency to interject himself into Clinton’s political orbit dates back to her U.S. Senate bid in New York, where he served as her campaign manager.

Earlier this week, WikiLeaks released other emails suggesting a functional but strained relationship, which led de Blasio to request more “direct access” to the former secretary of state.

In an email exchange with senior campaign officials on Nov. 18, 2014, top Clinton confidant Huma Abedin provided a status update to staffers on “progressive friends,” including de Blasio.

“I stay in touch with him and his team a lot. He has recently asked to have increased direct access to her so he can tell his progressive partners what she thinks about issues important to them,” Abedin wrote.

“He also thinks he can be most helpful to her if he has that kind of relationship. He wants to be seen as the loudest progressive voice for her and in order to do that he needs access. In the next 6 months, someone else will have to inherit this relationship because it will not be tenable for HRC.”

Trump criticizes ‘dishonest media’ for not covering hacked Podesta emails

Donald Trump criticized the “dishonest media” for not covering the latest do ent dump of Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s hacked emails, less than 15 minutes after WikiLeaks announced its fourth such trove.

“Very little pick-up by the dishonest media of incredible information provided by Wikileakes,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning, misspelling the name of the organization. “So dishonest! Rigged system!”

WikiLeaks formally announced the release of more of Podesta’s emails via Twitter at 8:38 a.m., just 14 minutes before Trump complained.

The Clinton campaign has declined to confirm the authenticity of any of the emails. Podesta, however, told reporters Tuesday that the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the hack.

Clinton aides miffed at Trumka’s praise of Biden

Senior advisers to Hillary Clinton privately fumed at AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka’s well-worn praise of Joe Biden – saying on a “Meet the Press” appearance that the vice president has been “fighting for working people his whole life.”

“It implies that HRC has not,” wrote Clinton aide Ann O’Leary in a Sept. 6 email to Nick Budzinski, part of a new batch of hacked emails obtained and disseminated by Wikileaks. “Is there anything we can do to get him to add something nice about HRC? If he says it and then says HRC has too - or gives an example of her fighting for the first responders after 9/11 or something, I think it will help the perception that there is a labor record contrast between the two.”

    Budzinski agreed about Trumka.

“He is annoying,” he said. “I'd like to just call the AFLCIO and talk to Mike Podhorzer about this. Let me know if anyone disagrees.”

An exchange Tuesday night between CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway highlighted an inherent tension in the Trump campaign’s recent push to put Bill Clinton’s sexual history at the forefront of the 2016 campaign:

Does settling a lawsuit imply some guilt?

Cooper pressed Conway on that question when she brought up the story of Paula Jones, who eventually settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with then-President Bill Clinton in 1998 for $850,000. The President, as part of that settlement, offered no apology and admitted no guilt for what Jones said were unwanted sexual advancements.

“It's part of the strategy to remind people of who Hillary Rodham Clinton actually is. If others aren't going to hold her account for her full record, then, yes, we will,” Conway said of the Trump campaign’s new strategy to associate Hillary Clinton with her husband’s behavior as governor of Arkansas and as President.

“He settled a sexual harassment case for $850,000 with Paula Jones in 1998 dollars. The last time I didn't sexually harass someone, I didn't pay him $850,000,” she said.

“Your candidate has settled numerous lawsuits without admitting any guilt on a whole number of things,” Cooper responded. “Are you implying that settling a lawsuit is implying guilt? Because if so, it means your candidate is guilty of an awful of lot of things, no?”

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewir...+%28TPMNews%29

    Holy , that's good stuff.

A Dem settling a lawsuit means he's guilty. A Repug settling 1000s of lawsuits means he's not guilty
